About The Swan Inn
On Main Rd in Ashbourne, The Swan Inn is a gastropub built around pies made with meats from the Staffordshire Traditional Meats butchers on site. The pies are served in the pub and sold in the adjacent farm shop, so diners can eat in or buy one to take home. Each pie comes with separate gravy, a choice of potato styles and a bowl of vegetables. The bar sits on one side and the restaurant on the other, with a conservatory extension and a separate dining room. Guests can order at the bar or be served at the table, and dogs are welcome. A coal fire burns in the bar, where dominoes are played. The pub sits on the A515, and its car park is shared with the farm shop.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are fewer but specific. One diner found the dessert lukewarm, including cherry pie with custard, and service slow with no offer of another drink while waiting. Another reported a bar server who sighed and answered bluntly, seeming interested only in regulars. One says the conservatory runs hotter than the bar, and another found the door to the food room tight for a wheelchair. A Sunday roast diner who noted the busy room and a slightly slow waiter on his own said they booked a table.

“Food was brilliant! Minimal wait, and the young waitress was good. Lovely park and bouncy castle for the children to play on in the garden. However, the blonde woman behind the bar acted like she didn't want to be there. Responded very bluntly and kept sighing. Seemed like she was only interested in the regulars in the bar area. Will not be returning due to her unfortunately.”

“Traditional Great British pub! Beer garden, bouncy castle. Excellent food all round, lunches, Sunday roast plenty of choice. Pete's pie night is a Monday is an absolute must. As good as the food is, the friendly and welcomed atmosphere, dominos being played, stories and banter everyday. Worth a seat in the background just to remeber the old days, just brave it and get in the thick of it and tell your storied, but remember tradition stats "whos having their leg pulled tonight". Modern times, with the old days British traditions. These pubs are hard to find. Staffordshire Traditional Meats Butchers on site, suppliers of the pies and meats, homemade bread great selection and choices.”

“Stopped off after a trip to Berkeley Park, a great little food pub with a farm shop to boot. Sitting on the main A515 it is easy to get to, the staff and the locals are very friendly and the food and beer excellent. Stop in if you’re passing, it’s well worth a look. Even has its own dining room if you like to book.”

“Beautifully cooked freshly made food, particularly famous for the range of pies they have. Our pies were totally delicious and came with separate gravy and a choice of potato styles and a huge bowl of vegetables, we arrived with massive appetites and left unable to finish all the vegetables they gave us.”
