About The New Broom

The New Broom is a family-run pub and family restaurant on Uttoxeter Rd in Stoke On Trent, with a campsite on the grounds offering pitches for caravans and motorhomes. Those pitches come with fresh water for filling tanks, wash-up facilities and a heated toilet and shower block, so travellers can stay over rather than just stop for a meal. The kitchen covers breakfast and evening meals, with a carvery and chicken goujons among the dishes. The landlord and landlady are on site, and the pub opens daily, with reservations recommended. A beer garden gives room for outdoor dining, and a children's play area sits alongside for families with young children. Dogs are welcome inside, and a quiz night runs as a regular fixture. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without steps. The site lies close to Alton Towers and the Churnet Valley Railway.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what pulls people back, described by several as the best they have ever had, with a wide spread of fresh food and generous portions. Close behind is the pub's usefulness as a stop after Alton Towers, where visitors credit staff with making them feel like regulars over dinner, breakfast, and dishes like the chicken goujons, singled out as huge and fresh. Campers and motorhome guests also form a steady thread, praising the small on-site pitches, the fresh water, heated toilet and shower block, and a play area they call safe and secure, with the landlord described as everywhere at all hours and always welcoming. Against this, one reviewer gives a very different account, reporting that the owner spoke rudely to their family over children with additional needs playing in the beer garden and told them they were not welcome back. Others simply note food arriving freshly cooked.

“Stayed here for a few nights in our caravan, this is one of those places that's just brilliant, amazing pub with fantastic food and very reasonable pricing for the pitch fees, decent playground for the kids safe and secure. The landlord is an absolute workhorse, he's everywhere at all times of the morning, day and night and always welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be coming back again, thank you for a great break. Thanks”

“I stop here for breakfast, whenever I am passing through. Its a great pub with good grounds and a fantastic garden area with kids play area. I believe that they also have a camping area on-site. Really nice folks running it too”

“WOW! THANK YOU! We spent a day at Alton Towers and wanted a meal before a long journey home, the staff were SO kind and attentive! The food was absolutely delicious, my daughter said 100/100, they couldn’t have done enough the staff. Good value for money! Our new spot after AT now! Thank you for topping off our day!”
  • Kate Dudley
“Absolutely shocked by our experience at The New Broom Pub. We came in expecting a relaxed, family-friendly environment, especially with a beer garden, but were met with the complete opposite. Our children, who have additional needs, were simply playing outside in the beer garden—not causing any harm or disruption—when the owner, John, approached us in an incredibly rude and inappropriate manner. His tone and language were completely unacceptable, especially in front of young kids. To make matters worse, we were actually told that we are no longer welcome to return because of this. It’s especially upsetting given that our children have additional needs, and a bit of space to play safely is important for them. Instead of understanding or support, we were treated with hostility. It’s disappointing to see a place that could be great for families act in such an unwelcoming and hostile way. If you have children and are looking for somewhere to feel comfortable, I’d strongly recommend avoiding this pub.”

“We stayed for a couple of nights on a motorhome pitch. We slept through so road noise didn't bother us. We had dinner and breakfast in the pub. Food was freshly cooked and lovely. It's not far from home but was convenient for where we going. Owners and staff very friendly we would return, but also would pop in for food if somewhere close”
