Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast dominates almost every account, with diners repeatedly singling out beef and brisket described as melt in the mouth, one noting it had been wood fired for fourteen hours, alongside crispy roast potatoes, plenty of gravy and a cauliflower cheese several call out by name. Portions come up nearly as often, described as extremely generous, and one party liked that the vegetables arrive in a big dish to help yourself. Close behind sit the puddings, with apple crumble, apple pie and sticky toffee all named. Beyond Sundays, visitors mention chunky chips, a thick gammon, rump steak, chicken burgers, homemade kebabs from the grill menu and fish and chips. The well kept ales and the range of beers and wines draw praise too. Reviewers consistently describe the owners and bar staff as friendly and quick, several mentioning being remembered on return visits, and one who found the interior fairly basic on walking in says any doubts passed quickly.

“We’ve probably only eaten here 3 or 4 times but every time we go the lady that runs or co-owns always remembers us and always makes us feel very welcome. The sunday roast last week (and every time) was fantastic. We love the simplicity of the basic sunday menu as you know they concentrate on quality food delivery and ingredients. The beef is melt in the mouth and so many places over the years have served me something like leather!! Very generous servings, very fairly priced and tasty food but you may not have room for pudding! 😁 A fairly basic appearance when you first walk in which may give you doubts but it’s fine. Independent village pubs like this are sadly a dying breed so get down and support them. We’ll be back again this weekend. 👍”

“Visited recently and had a really enjoyable experience at The Cock at Stowe. The setting is lovely—classic countryside pub vibes with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. The food was a highlight: well-presented, generous portions, and clearly made with quality ingredients. The menu had a good mix of traditional favourites and a few more modern options, so there’s something for everyone. Drinks selection was also solid, with a good range of beers and wines. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which really added to the overall experience. Staff seemed knowledgeable and happy to help with recommendations. Overall, a great spot whether you’re stopping by for a casual drink or a full meal. Would definitely return.”

“It’s been a journey trying to find somewhere near Stafford for a good Sunday Lunch but we have finally found the place. From the phone call to book a table to leaving with very full belly’s the owners were amazing. So friendly and helpful. Drinks were served to the table quickly and we both opted for the Sunday lunch but there were a couple of other dishes of roasts aren’t for you. The food was delicious and plentiful. The meats were all cooked to perfection, veggies were fresh, the cauliflower cheese was amazing and the roast potatoes were crispy and well cooked. We can’t wait to go back”

“Stopped in here for a family lunch on our way home from Southport to Reading. Lovely food, we all had the Sunday roast and a vegetarian meal and puddings. All delicious. They also allow dogs which was a bonus for us. Would definitely recommend this pub.”
