About The Bluebell
The Bluebell is a pub on Adam's Rd in Ashbourne, reopened after two years of planning and renovations with a new kitchen and cellar. Groups have two options: garden pods, and a private dining room for larger parties. Group bookings are asked to pre-order meals. A garden room and a conservatory add more places to sit. The kitchen serves pizzas, and a beef roast dinner is on the menu. A fire burns in the pub, and the drinks list includes an espresso martini. Walk-ins can get a table, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often point to the food, with the beef roast dinner and the pizzas named as standouts, one calling the roast the best they have had at a pub. Close behind is friendly service, and the garden pod and garden room get repeated mentions as a pleasant place to sit. An espresso martini and starters also draw praise, and the pub being dog friendly is noted approvingly. Several describe a busy but welcoming atmosphere with a fire burning, and one suggests reserving.

“I had booked a special birthday meal at The Bluebell for the Saturday evening, as we were staying locally for the weekend. As the restaurant was close to our accommodation, we decided to pop in on the Friday for a light lunch in the early afternoon. On arrival, we found the pub to be a pleasant-looking place, and the barman who greeted us was friendly and welcoming. He showed us through to the conservatory, which was fairly quiet at that time of the afternoon. Unfortunately, our experience after that was disappointing. We sat for some time without being approached to place our order. Eventually, we went back to the bar, assuming that perhaps we needed to order there. A young waitress then said, “I was just coming to you,” but her tone came across as quite abrupt and made us feel as though we were an inconvenience. When our food arrived, we noticed that one of the forks provided was filthy, with dried food still caked onto it. We pointed this out to the waitress, who simply took the fork away and told us that we could use the other cutlery on the table. There was no apology or acknowledgement of the poor standard of cleanliness, which we found particularly disappointing. We ordered two hot meals and a poke bowl. The presentation of the meals was reasonable, but unfortunately the cabbage served with both of the hot meals was cold. The poke bowl was adequate, but nothing particularly memorable. We also had to ask again for drinks, as nobody came back to check whether we would like anything else. To be fair, the barman was very attentive and friendly and brought the drinks to us, and he was by far the most welcoming member of staff during our visit. Overall, we left feeling disappointed. The lack of attentiveness, the attitude we experienced from the waitress, the dirty cutlery and the cold food were not what we expected. This was particularly concerning as we had already booked The Bluebell for a special birthday meal the following evening. After this experience, we were left questioning whether we had made the right choice for such an important occasion.”

“It's one you wouldn't normally drive past so it's worth making a detour. Very impressed with the level of service. Garden is very nice and a lovely place to be if the sun is out. We sat in the garden room for dinner, all had fantastic plates of food. Very impressed and I'll definitely be going back.”

“Had called through to reserve a table for 3 for food and on arrival we weren't in tbe restaurant but in the walkway between the bar and restaurant. Loads of people walking past inc stafd collecting drinks etc. Asked to move and only space was outside. Starter was fine but the pancakes were dry. Asked for a medium rare steak which came well done. And ive never known anywhere able to mess up a Hugo spritz, but apparently you can. I was very underwhelmed since we'd heard good things about the place.”

“I’ve had a meal with 3 girlfriends today & the food was great. Generous portions, reasonably priced & very relaxed & comfortable. The thing that made our afternoon so special was the staff. Ron greeted us with a smile & couldn’t do any more to make us feel welcome. Liv, our waitress was patient & informative about our menu options & again a big smile. We were not rushed so stayed and had coffees so we could chat longer. Will definitely return & bring other friends & family. The staff are a credit to the industry.”

“Excellent pizzas, really great atmosphere. The place was busy on a Wednesday, which I think is a testament to the quality. It was very well-staffed and the service great. We were lucky to get a walk-in seating. Reservation would be recommended.”
