About Tichborne Arms
Tichborne Arms is a thatched country freehouse on Riverside Cottages in Alresford, with a garden that backs onto fields of cows and looks out over open countryside. Inside, seating is split across several areas. The kitchen cooks roast lamb, and it runs a pizza night with toppings such as goat cheese. A range of ales sits behind the bar. The pub has a car park on site, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the food, with the roast lamb the most repeated highlight, called enormous and packed with flavour, and one pairing it with sticky toffee pudding. Pizzas come close behind, with the goat cheese, farmhouse and truffle varieties named, along with a broccoli beet salad and spicy sweetcorn soup. The thatched setting and garden draw steady praise, with covered outdoor seating, countryside views and cows at the end of the garden. Several call the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful, and one notes a good range of ales and drinks. Service is also where the complaints sit. One reviewer waited a long time for a single burger, then learned the second had been lost in an ordering error, and was later refused a drink at the bar after being told outside that last orders were still open. Another found the younger staff slow and questioned the service charge on the bill. Both still rated the food good. One reviewer ended the evening sleeping in a camper in the car park.

“This is an extremely pretty, thatched country pub. We visited for a quick drink after a countryside walk and enjoyed the views from the garden. Multiple indoor and outdoor seating areas, friendly staff and fast service.”

“A real mixed bag. The pub itself was lovely in terms of setting/location. The service was awful. Met a friend, and I arrived early. At first I was told there was no booking. After about 5 mins there was a booking and I was sat down outside which given the weather was perfect. I was informed that being outside would mean ordering at the outside bar for food. When we ordered lots of mains including the specials were out, we ended up ordering the chicken burger recommended by the lady at the bar. After ordering, only one burger came out (50 minutes later) and the waitress asked after putting the burger down is that all of your order, just 1 burger. We confirmed we'd ordered two. She left came back less then 2 minutes later asking the same question was it only 1 burger. We again confirmed it was 2 so we had another burger to come. Another 5 minutes later and the lady from the outside bar apologised there was an error in ordering and the second burger would arrive shortly but we'd have a drink as an apology. By the time I finished my burger after it had eventually come one if the waitresses came by saying last orders in 15 mins. So we got up and walked inside for a drink to be told the bar was closed and no drinks could be ordered. When we explained we'd been told outside we had 15 mins the chap looked like it couldn't care less, and didnt even apologise. The food was good. If you arent bothered by service then its a good option for good views and food.”

“Absolutely incredible food. The roast lamb was enormous, packed with flavour, and quite simply the best roast I’ve ever eaten. The potatoes were perfectly crispy, and every dish we’ve tried has been outstanding. The setting is beautiful too, with cows at the end of the garden adding to the charm and making it feel really special. What stands out just as much as the food is the service. We’ve visited on both Father’s Day and Easter Sunday; two of the busiest days of the year and on both occasions we felt thoroughly looked after. If a restaurant can deliver service like that when it’s so busy, they’re clearly doing something right. Special mention for Charlotte who served us today, she was great. A real asset! Fantastic food, wonderful surroundings, and excellent hospitality. We can’t wait for our next visit.”

“I came to The Tichbourne Arms with my husband and parents today to celebrate my birthday. My husband and i have been before during the winter months for drinks only, so we thought we knew what to expect. We were wrong. IT FAR EXCEEDED expectations - sure, the sunny weather helped but the food (we had the lamb roast and sticky toffee pudding) was incredible!!! But the reason for this review is down to the service - my goodness, the staff are incredible. Amelia, Grace and our special “shimmery” Ellie… you guys made my birthday and our entire experience. Thank you so much. x”

“Wouldn't be surprised if this place breaks into the Michelin guide, the food was that good. Well worth a stop. We loved our time there. Service was great too”
