About State of Grace
State of Grace is a polished new American restaurant in Houston, serving creative Texas dishes, oysters, grilled specialties, and cocktails from its location on Westheimer Road. The kitchen's focus on the Gulf Coast's seafood and live-fire cooking shapes a menu that spans from raw bar staples to hearty grilled plates. The Oak Roasted Oysters stand as a signature starter, while Hushpuppies anchor the side offerings. The bar program centers on wine and crafted cocktails to complement the savory menu. Reservations are advised for the main dining room.

Customer Review Summary
State of Grace draws consistent praise for its daily oyster happy hour, with reviewers calling out the variety of gulf and east coast options and the value of the deal before 6pm. The hushpuppies and oyster bar martini also earn repeat mentions, along with the oak roasted oysters, crab beignets, and lobster roll. Diners frequently describe the space as beautiful and elegant, and several highlight the attentive service at the bar and in the oyster room. A few note that the bread service with caviar is worth asking for, though it may take some time to arrive. On the negative side, a couple of reviewers describe significant service breakdowns during larger or busy meals, including long waits for entrees, missing items like bread requested multiple times, and servers who disappeared for stretches. One diner reports a portion size inconsistency with the herb roasted chicken and pomme purée, where the split half portions were noticeably smaller than a single full order. Another finds the food overpriced, citing a filet served swimming in juices with no garnish and an overcooked lobster in the fettuccine, though the steak tartare was a redeeming dish. Several suggest booking ahead, especially for brunch and dinner.

“Very cool atmosphere and a great place to go on a nice date. I will say the food was not over the top delicious but it was good. They have some oysters on the half shell are $1.50 very day before 6pm which I loved! We went for brunch and tried the griddle cakes, gumbo, salade maison, buttermilk biscuits and got a dozen oysters.”

“I come here all the time for their oyster happy hour. It’s $1.50 daily until 6pm and they usually have 4-5 different oyster options on happy hour, from gulf to east coast options. My friend also go the hush puppies and loved them! The oyster bar martini is also my favorite. I love sitting at the bar or in their oyster room. The vibes are amazing!”

“We had a lovely anniversary dinner. The service was amazing. The oysters were delicious, the Pom Pom mocktail tasty, and the La entrecôte and frites with aioli sauce did not disappoint. Was our first time to visit but we will be back!”
