  “Wanted to try something new but that was a mistake. While everyone was really nice including our waitress the food was Terrible. I felt like I was eating at a shop that was 2 days from closing down. Took 45 mins for the order to come out nasty and cold. New chef and food quality needed asap please.”

  “We had dinner at the bar/lounge side of Hull & Oak and really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. There was a live guitarist playing, which added a nice touch, and the lounge seating created a relaxed, comfortable environment. The large windows overlooking downtown were a great feature, especially with the city activity outside. The drinks were well made, and the service—especially from our bartender—was excellent. Food was good overall: The Gulf shrimp skillet was flavorful and a repeat order The smash burger was good, though the portion was larger than expected One issue was that a modification request (no spicy relish) was not followed The only major concern was the presence of gnats/fruit flies in the lounge area. While this may be common in bar settings, it was noticeable and required us to constantly fan our food, which impacted the experience. Overall, a great atmosphere and strong service, with a few areas that could be improved.”

  “Super cute place to eat breakfast inside the Laura hotel. Food was delicious from Chef Ricardo.. we had biscuit & gravy, the Laura sandwich and the classic two egg breakfast. All so good! Tanisha took great care of us. Small wait - so make a reservation if in a hurry. But highly recommend for a tasty sit down breakfast in Houston!”

  “Was in this side of town for some business, looked up Google for breakfast joint and I was drawn to the high star 🌟 reviews. Yes, it lives up to the hype. Came in at 0800ish, the Hull & Oak had many seats available. People wore mostly business attire. The server that helped us was Ms. Toni she was very sweet and welcoming, giving off southern charm just like the food they offer here. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, I got the challah French toast and side of potatoes. They were all incredibly good. Biscuit tasted light and fluffy, gravy tasted balanced. The potatoes were small Yukon golds perfectly seasoned with hint of butter. French toast was divine with the berries and pecans on top. It was a delicious breakfast and I made up my mind that I would come here again when in town. Service and food was 5 🌟”

  “I just had a fabulous breakfast at Hull and Oak…. Fresh brewed coffee was fantastic !!!! Had the amazing peaches and cream waffle…. This place has a great vibe. I love the counter that you could sit at and my server, Ms Toni is incredible. She made me feel like home…. I just landed from Fort Lauderdale and wanted a great breakfast to start my trip. I was not disappointed.”

  “This was a nice change in pace for our normal brunch options, but I personally don't feel like anything truly makes us want to come back. The restaurant is nestled on the 2nd floor of the Laurel Hotel in Downtown Houston. It has a cozy but modern feel when you are there. The atmosphere is not set though, as there was no music being played inside... Which made nearby guests conversations a part of the dining experience, whether you wanted it or not. I think any music would help as no music makes it a bit dull in there. The cleanliness needs improving as well. When we first walked in, we noticed debris under most of the tables from past guests who where dining before us. Also, when we were seated at our table, there was a leftover onion laying on top of the sugar cart. Aside from our initial observations, we were greeted immediately and the waitress was very kind. I ordered the two eggs your way and added a biscuit & gravy, while my wife decided on the BBQ shrimp & grits. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish! The biscuit was soft inside with a crisp exterior, it was nice and buttery and the gravy complimented it very well. I ordered the the over easy and it was perfect. The yolk was creamy and gave the crisp potatoes a nice buttery flavor to them as well. I opted for the pork sausage links as well. They were nice and plump. This meal was nice and hearty and I really enjoyed all of it. We each ordered the Cafe Latte... please be warned... It will scolded you as it is unusually hot for a Latte. There was another table nearby that one of the ladies burned her mouth really bad from a small sip of hers, so we were relieved we were not the only ones who thought it was super hot. My wife had the BBQ shrimp and grits and she was not impressed. The grits were overcooked and lacked creaminess... Also, the flavor was almost appalling. It tasted and felt like they dumped canned rotel into Velveeta and mixed it into an almost dough-like mix of overcooked grits. It was the worse shrimp & grits we ever had... Which was a shame because we were there at 10:30am and the chef made an exception to cook it before their official 11am brunch menu. This was our first time here and we really had high hopes... Maybe our hopes were set too high. For the price and the hype, it just didn't deliver like we expected. It was not a terrible experience though, so I'm giving it a 4 out of 5.”

  “Jasue and Demont provided truly top-tier service during our visit. We dined at the restaurant for four consecutive days, and their consistency, professionalism, and genuine passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences were evident every time. On our final visit, we wanted to dine in an area near a large window with a city view. Although there were no servers assigned to that section, Jasue stepped in without hesitation and took excellent care of us. That level of attentiveness and initiative made our experience even more memorable. Highly recommend this restaurant outstanding service makes all the difference.”
