Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
Quick info
About Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ is a yakiniku restaurant in Houston, where diners cook meat, seafood, and vegetables on individual tabletop grills. Much of its format comes from the chain's built-in grill setup, which puts cooking directly at each table and suits groups that want to eat at their own pace. The Gyu-Family Meal for All anchors the menu as a shared option, while Lady M's Green Tea Mille Crepe w Ice Cream serves as the dessert side. Mains range from smaller plates to larger selections across the list. Because the grill setup draws groups, booking ahead is advised during peak times.

Customer Review Summary
Diners consistently single out the interactive tabletop grilling and the all-you-can-eat format as the primary draw, with reviewers praising the flavor and quality of the meats. Close behind is the service, which multiple reviewers describe as attentive and welcoming, often noting servers who explain the menu and offer cooking tips. Specific dishes mentioned include the fried rice and the new york steak, with several also highlighting the downward ventilation that keeps the table clear of smoke. A recurring caveat centers on price, with some noting it is a little pricey and advising an understanding of the format. One serious complaint details a server tossing dishes on the table, a long wait for hot water, and disrespectful responses from staff, noting the manager was absent during the incident. Several reviewers suggest making reservations, and one specifically recommends asking for a server who can guide the meal.

“Veronica was a wonderful server who was very attentive to our table. We were never left with empty cups and grill. She was very informative and kept our table clean. This was one of the best experiences we had at Gyukaku of many times here. We hope to get Veronica the next time we come!”

“This was a great food experience. Food was delicious and there are option for you to cook or have it cooked. Its a great way to sit around, grill and eat and chat. The seating could us some updating as it is very worn but this is due to the amount of people going. Make reservations! Its a little pricey but you just need to understand how this works. I think the all you can eat is a great deal but you should plan what to eat! :) Enjoy!”
