About Cocoa Tree Cafe
On Castlegate in York, Cocoa Tree Cafe is a cafe serving toasted teacakes, sandwiches, and quiches, with sandwiches toasted on request. A beef burger with cheese, brioche bun, chips, and salad or coleslaw sits alongside the cake selection, which runs to ginger cake, chocolate orange cake, and cheese scones, and a lemon berry sundae with lemon curd, strawberry ice cream, raspberry coulis, and wafers appears on the menu. Afternoon tea for one is offered, and Yorkshire tea is served throughout the day. The cafe takes walk-ins rather than bookings, and it opens Monday, Tuesday, and Friday to Sunday, closing on Wednesdays and Thursdays. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating extends the space for those eating with dogs, which are welcome on the premises.

Customer Review Summary
The few criticisms are small. One reviewer who hoped for a quiche found no vegetarian option and had sandwiches instead, and another notes that outside seating sits beside passing heavy vehicles, though it didn't bother them. One diner was too full from the burger to try any of the cakes.

“A must visit! Our first time in Helmsley on a busy bank Holiday, stopped off in here on the way back to the car. We didn't search the place first just thought we'd pop in for a drink but the cake looked amazing so we couldn't help but order. I got the chocolate orange/jaffa cake and my partner got the afternoon tea for one. Absolutely amazing! We will 100% be back. Also the couple who run it are lovely and the man topped my milkshake up for me 🥰”

“We came here seeing the reviews and also being dog friendly. Julie and Mark are so lovely. We came in with our two dogs and checked if it was dog friendly as it was so clean. The food is freshly made to order. They have lovely fresh ingredients and the cakes and treats looked amazing. Also served Yorkshire tea! I would 100% pay this place a visit. Very chilled and relaxing vibe.”
