Customer Review Summary

Warm scones with clotted cream and jam are what several diners praise most, with one calling the cream tea the best they had on their trip and another noting plentiful cream and jam. Coffee comes close behind, including a smooth, rich mocha, an iced latte and a latte with oat milk, while parkin, tiffin and a crumpet each get individual mentions. Several also mention the view of York Minster through a wall of windows, and outdoor seats beside it. One reviewer notes gluten free cakes are not labelled or kept apart. Service splits the reviews. Some describe friendly, quick staff and a warm welcome, but others find them cold or cordial at best. One party waiting for family says they were asked whether the rest were even coming after requesting to move tables together. Another reports a spill on a wobbly table, a coffee taken off the bill, and then added back after they declined to leave a tip.

“Very disappointing experience. The table was really wobbly and I ended up spilling my coffee all over myself and the floor. A staff member came over to clean it up and later told us she’d taken one coffee off the bill, which I thought was a nice gesture. When we went to pay, she asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I said no, and she then added the free coffee back onto the bill. I still paid, but honestly, it left a really bad taste in my mouth. Her attitude afterwards also felt noticeably unfriendly, and the whole interaction was just awkward and unpleasant. Tipping is optional, so adding the coffee back straight after I declined to tip felt pretty mean and unprofessional. What makes it even more disappointing is that this is a café right next to York Minster, where staff must meet tourists from all over the world every day. Experiences like this really don’t leave a good impression of York, which is such a shame for an otherwise lovely city.”

“It was nice. Nothing exceptional, we were here just for a quick visit before closing. We had Parkin, really wanted to try it homemade as it is local, it was nice. Service was given 3 stars only cause while it was lovely we weren't give a second cup to drink tea cause we order a teapot for one person only. I understand the point of this, but we were in a rush, full already, we only wanted one pot to share rather than waste a larger pot for two, the waiter could have said yes to a simple request such as that.”

“Stopped in for a proper cup of tea and scones with clotted cream and jam. Best I have ever had and definitely what I wanted on my trip to the UK. My husband had a crumpet, which was also delicious. I highly recommend this place.”

“Food was average; we went for lunch. The latte was good. There is a lovely view of the minster. Our only real complaint was the staff; they were cordial at best with a moment or two of rudeness.”

“Best coffee in the area and lovely ladies who run it. Outside seats are in a gorgeous bit of sun right next to York Minster and uts beautiful gardens. Best coffee I’ve had in the UK. I had an iced latte and my Nana had a latte which was gorgeously piping hot.”
