  “If you’re passing through York this is definitely the place to get a proper dinner and some pints. Vibe was lively, servers were busy running around but were still very attentive. The place itself is tucked into a quiet little neighborhood but worth the walk away from the center of town. Definitely one of my standout meals while traveling through the UK.”

  “We booked here for 20 of us on the 2nd of June and did a pre ordered menu. The staff and the food was fantastic, thank you so much for looking after us. We can highly recommend eating and drinking here, thanks again from Andy and the other 19 👍”

  “Visited the pub after reading great reviews on their Sunday roast and it did not disappoint. My partner who is a vegetarian also thoroughly enjoyed the roast. I was hesitant to order the chicken roast but it was so delicious - highly recommend this place”

  “We went today for a Sunday roast, we aren’t from the area so took us a while to decide on where to go. We were not disappointed. Staff were very kind and attentive, big portions and a lovely Sunday dinner. My partner said it was the best he had in a long time. Always nice when places offer vegetarian/vegan options as they aren’t always easy to find. While we didn’t have our kids with us it was family friendly. Lovely little place and glad we found it, thank you :-)”

  “Went for our wedding anniversary. We had such a great time. The food was absolutely excellent and the atmosphere was really buzzing. But what made the night so good was the excellent staff at this place. Sam who served us at the bar was really welcoming and Amy who served us in restaurant was outstanding. She had an full, busy restaurant to manage and she was never stressed, always helpful and very attentive. Her service made us feel so comfortable that we could concentrate on each other and have a great anniversary meal. Thank you to all at the Winning Post, our first visit, but not our last.”

  “Went here for Sunday lunch , bad experience from the start, ignored by staff at the bar and other people got served before us, was told to sit where we wanted and i asked for menus and was told they would bring them over, they didn't!!! After 10 mins went to bar to ask again. Ordered food which arrived quickly was very poor standard gravy was like brown slightly thickened sweet water. I had burger and chips the chips were gorgeous ( hence the one star). Nobody asked once if everything was ok. Sat waiting for table to be cleared and offered a desert menu however this did not happen. My husband who is a very patient man I might add got up to go and pay at the bar, then a man did then come over to clear our table. I looked at him was about to say thank you but realised he hadn't even looked at me let alone asked if I enjoyed my food or did I want a dessert! So I kept quiet. He cleared the table in complete silence and walked away. I actually thought wow this is shocking. We eat out regular and never had such bad service.”

  “Wow, what a lovely meal we had here. It started with a really warm welcome and being shown to a nice table. There's a awesome menu with something for everyone. Great for vegetarians. The service was really quick and nothing was too much trouble. The food was hot, delicious and really well cooked. The portion sizes were very generous and very filling. Desserts were to die for! Definitely recommend the apple strudel!”

  “Really good quality food. The food was beautiful. Came here as it was opposite our hotel. Gluten free choices were really good . Me daughter said they served the best chips she's ever had and the burger was lovely too. I had chicken which was gorgeous.”

  “Ive been here a couple of times recently to see The Waterboys and Ocean Colour Scene. The Sound setup is good. The seats are comfortable and the venue continues to put on some great artists and shows.”

  “Absolutely fantastic random find on our visit to York. The food was amazingly home cooked and some of the most delicious food I have had out and about for a long time. I had the chicken Thai green curry pie and chips and my wife had the haddock risotto. Fabulous selection of IPAs and beers. Very well priced food and I will be coming back again if I am ever in the area. The table service and all the staff behind the bar were so helpful and friendly. Easily a 10 out of 10 experience.”
