About The Ackhorne
The Ackhorne is a pub at 9 St Martin's Ln in York, down a lane just off Micklegate. Cask ale is the focus here, with six hand-pumped real ales on the bar, including a house bitter brewed by Half Moon. The pub is a regular in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. An old bar billiards table stands inside the long building, which gives the beer a game to go with it. The kitchen opens only for Sunday roast, and the plate includes lamb and sage and onion stuffing. Roast bookings are taken by phone or by walking in, with no email or online booking. The pub has its own dogs.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the Sunday roast, with the lamb called especially tender and tasty and the sage and onion stuffing described as "to die for". One reviewer notes the kitchen opens only for Sunday roast, and several suggest reserving by calling or walking in, since there is no email or online booking. Close behind is the beer. Diners praise a solid selection of cask ales, with six hand pumps, a house bitter and well-kept Guinness among the specifics. The old bar billiards table and the pictures on the walls add interest, and a few mention a friendly landlord and bartender. A rear courtyard and beer garden get used, including one winter visit when the inside was full. Reviewers describe the pub as tucked away down a lane off the main street, with a mix of ages and a relaxed feel. The one complaint is the music, which one reviewer found too loud for conversation. Locals begin arriving around half past one on Sundays, and a few seats at the bar suit a quick pint.

“Make sure to make a reservation for Sunday roast. The best way is to either call or walk in and make one yourself. They don’t use email or online reservation. We arrived in York on Friday from the States and visited the pub to make one. The kitchen is only open for Sunday Roast and I read somewhere this is the best place for it. Don’t get me wrong their beer selections are great you should definitely visit for them but the Sunday Roast- oh my! Do yourself a favor and head to this place and see if you agree they have the best food.”

“What a great pub. The cask ale is served to perfection and a good but small choice. The landlord was friendly and even told us of some other great pub to visit in York. Truth be known this was the best pub we visited during the day and probably should have stayed there a lot longer. Certainly a revisit on the cards.”

“Good pub tucked away of the main tourist route. Bloody good beer selection, good quality. Shame about the music, too loud, unnecessary if you want to talk”
