  “Deserts was delicious but to make it more American giant marshmallows would be a good upgrade. We had the cookies too, great once them brought them back the second time warmed up. We got the big sharing platter. We enjoyed the big rib, fries, brisket and slaw but the rest wasnt to our taste unfortunately. The orange soda was nice and my son enjoyed the milkshake. We will go back to try a burger next time. We didnt get seated as we didnt realise you had to book in advance but they allowed us to sit in the bar and order food hence the atmosphere score. Im sure the restaurant side was much better. Staff was friendly. Smores was 10/10 and fun with the kids”

  “First time visit to Hickory's and we didnt get disappointed. Atmosphere, food and staff all just perfect 👌. Our server was so lovely and friendly, did not rush is, explained everything we asked and was very attentive and welcoming. Fantastic experience all together. Thank you ❤️”

  “WOW! it was my partners birthday Saturday last week so this was a special surprise for him! (we have never been to a restaurant like this before) from start to finish every staff member we intereacted with were so friendly and made the effort to chat to us, the host or manager very attentive and chatty(sorry I didn't get your name) the food was huge portion sizes so make sure to go on a empty stomach! the ribs were perfectly cooked and fell off the bone, the chicken perfectly seasonsoned. The cocktails unreal, I wish we had room for desert! it's one of those places you will always remember especially since it was the first time we celebrated my partners birthday together and will always want to go back too! Also the perfect touch was the staff bringing out a little surprise at the end for my partners birthday. Us cumbrians will be back! :)”

  “Was a bit sceptical about coming here. Thought it would be poor quality food. However, it was amazing and I regret not coming sooner. Was attended for a family birthday on a Thursday evening, the venue soon filled up so I would recommend booking. Quick service and the food was epic. Make sure you go hungry and you won’t be disappointed. Will 100% be back.”

  “As Texans visiting York, we couldn't resist checking out Hickory’s Smokehouse to see how it measured up to the real deal back home. ​Upon entering, the atmosphere immediately hits the right notes—with country music playing and a well-executed Texas-themed decor, it definitely sets a fun, authentic stage. We were welcomed by a very friendly greeter and opted for a table out on the terrace, which provided a lovely setting for our meal. ​ ​We started with the house salad and the blooming onion. A word of caution on the salad: it was not what we were expecting. It leaned heavily on corn kernels and black beans with very few actual salad greens, so it’s more of a southwest bean salad than a traditional garden salad. ​We ordered the brisket and the beef rib. The brisket had a decent flavor profile, though it was on the drier side. The beef rib was impressive in size and thickness, though it was quite fatty. ​ While it might not perfectly replicate the specific style of our favorite smokehouses back in Texas, the BBQ was enjoyable overall. The welcoming atmosphere and the pleasant terrace seating made for a good experience. We enjoyed ourselves enough that we wouldn't hesitate to go back again.”

  “Can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Went with my family to enjoy a celebration meal for completing my chemo treatment and after a brief chat with the manager Adrian was then gifted a voucher towards a game I was planning to preorder along with a complimentary desert to congratulate me and also a signed card from himself and all the staff on shift. Truly a lovely gesture that didn’t have to be done but just shows the character of the staff. Absolutely great atmosphere and even better food, I can’t wait to visit again and try more on the menu. Thankyou so much again, your gesture meant the world to me.”

  “Food was fantastic. Sharing platter for two was immense!! Make sure you are hungry. Brisket Mac 'n' cheese was really tasty. Nice birthday touch at the end of the meal too. Highly recommend and would definitely go again.”

  “Outstanding from start to finish. Warm welcome, genuinely friendly staff and excellent handling of my son’s nut allergy without being patronising. The food was superb. The carnivore platters, mac and cheese, maple cornbread and desserts were all excellent. Everything was perfectly cooked, juicy without being greasy, and full of flavour. The restaurant itself is fantastic, with loads of attention to detail. We even got a tour of the pit! We spent around £150 including tip and it felt entirely fair for the quality of the food, service and overall experience. One of the best family meals we’ve had in a long time. We’ll definitely be back.”

  “This is one of the best Hickory's we have visited thus far. Great looking, very friendly staff, live music (possibly because it was on a Friday), fast service, great food. Loved the woodburn scent that occasionally flew through the restaurant. I was a bit hesitant at first as when placing reservations through their website a few hours prior to our visit all slots were still available. This while I'm used to seeing most slots full days ahead with other Hickory's, so I was wondering about this one's popularity. Don't let that make you doubt as well. Place was packed. The other places that have their reservations typically show as full mostly have quite a few tables still available when arriving, so might even be a trick to look popular or something. Either way, if you're a fan of Hickory's, definitely give this one a try as well. Their large burger is amazing.”

  “​​Warm Welcome and Nostalgic Flavors ​Overall Impression We were very excited to visit, and overall, I’m so glad we did! The highlight for me was finally satisfying a years-long craving for cornbread; it was absolutely delicious and did not disappoint. It was also a treat to see root beer and root beer floats on the menu—a rare and welcome find. ​The Food We decided to buy several things to try as it's so rare we find Southern USA food in the UK. My husband had a burger and the frickles, while I opted for the cornbread and the pretzel. We also shared some poutine potatos which we both loved. The cheese sauce that accompanied the pretzel was tasty and had a great pull - it was like the cheese from Saturday morning cartoons! I’ve rated the food a 3/5 simply because several elements were quite heavy on the oil. We have eaten Southern USA food many times before (mostly in Florida) and understand that Hickory’s Smokehouse is more akin to the Texas style, which may be naturally richer. While this authenticity is likely a hit for many, it was a bit much for my sensitive stomach, and even my husband—who is much more robust!—had to leave some of his meal. We brought it home to avoid waste as the food was tasty if you can get past the oil. Unfortunately, we still couldn't finish it because of how heavy and oily some elements were. ​Pro Tip: Don't skip this spot as the atmosphere is lovely, but if you're sensitive to rich foods, perhaps try the watermelon salad and a root beer float instead of the heavier items. ​Exceptional Service: Five Stars for Gray What truly made our visit memorable was the hospitality. We were greeted by a hostess named Gray, who was incredibly welcoming and kind. She even went out of her way to check back later to ensure my cornbread lived up to the hype! ​As we aren't from the area, Gray made us feel right at home. She spoke so passionately about the restaurant and the upcoming locations in the North East. I truly hope management sees this and commends Gray; her hard work, brand loyalty, and genuine charm are a massive asset to your team. We left feeling like valued guests thanks to her.”
