Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the Sunday roast at The Eagle Tavern, praising the roast sirloin of beef with its crispy potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and rich gravy, alongside sides like pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. Close behind are the schnitzel and the Hooky Scotch Egg, with several highlighting the creamy stout mushrooms on toast as a standout. The atmosphere earns repeated mention for its warmth and friendliness, with many noting the welcoming staff and lively, communal vibe. A few advise booking ahead for Sunday roasts due to popularity. One reviewer reports a negative experience with a barman over a wine request.

I guess I did something wrong? My wife and I called in at The Eagle Tavern for a glass of wine Sunday night. I asked the young barman if they had Chardonnay. He shook his head sided to side, …

The Eagle Tavern was recommended to us so we thought we’d give it a go. Firstly, a very friendly warm welcome by the staff, our prebooked table was next to the window which was lovely. We both ordered the Sunday roast which is amazing value for money - a large home cooked roast with large Yorkshire puddings then I had a Chocolate Brownie Sundae, just yummy. The roast beef was £19 and the roast chicken £14. The dessert £5. It’s a beautiful traditional pub, with welcoming staff and offers really good value for money. We only booked the evening before and some people just arrived without a booking. Thank you and we’ll definitely be returning.

We stumbled across the Eagle Tavern unexpectedly when another lunch booking fell through. We were given a warm welcome and although super busy they managed to squeeze us in last minute for their Sunday roast. The experience was nothing short of spectacular. The food was absolutely outstanding every component was cooked to perfection. We had roast sirloin of beef, which came with all the trimmings: perfectly crispy roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, and cabbage, a silky celeriac purée, a giant Yorkshire pudding, and the best bit - a rich, savoury gravy that for once we didn't need to ask for more of! We added sides of pigs in blankets - which were full size chipolatas with a whole rasher of bacon wrapped around each - and some of the best cauliflower cheese we've ever tasted. With little room left we engaged our dessert stomach and shared a portion of the divine sticky toffee pudding. Yum. Considering the generous portions and the quality of the meal, it was also incredible value for money. The service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming - we made friends with all the tables around us. So good we booked to come back the following week! Thank you to the team at The Eagle. :]
