About Lamb and Flag
On St Giles' in Oxford, the Lamb and Flag is a 500 year-old college pub with a historic connection to C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, the Inklings. That history makes it a stop for anyone tracing the Inklings in the city. The bar runs around 20 keg lines and 9 or 10 cask pumps, pouring local craft beers and real ales. Ciders are served too, along with a hobbit ale. Inside, small tables share the room with a sofa beside an old fireplace. The clientele mixes locals, students, college dons and backpackers.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mostly for the beer, praising local craft brews and real ales. One describes around 20 keg lines and 9 or 10 cask pumps, with ales that were very well kept, and a visiting American brewer welcomed the full-flavoured options. Cider also gets a nod, though one drinker found the hobbit ale not to their taste. Close behind is the busy, good natured mix of backpackers, students and college dons, with outside seats in the lane and a comfy sofa by the old fireplace. Staff are called fast and friendly, and a few mention tasty cakes and bread, or a margherita pizza with a stout. The complaints concern handling and cost. One visitor served a room temperature beer was told to pay for another and that the serving temperature was basic knowledge, and left feeling unwelcome. Another was charged more for a T-shirt than its displayed price, and one found a large glass of wine too expensive. When food was not being served, staff happily recommended other eateries.

“Nice to see the L & F back open again. It's just off the tourist trail in Oxford, so you do tend to get more locals, students and those in 'the know'. Basic pub atmosphere with few pretentions, though £12.50 for a large glass of Pino G was just too much at this pub, the beers and ciders are more reasonable. Enjoy.”

“Lovely old Oxford pub with great vibe, everyone seemed to be having a good conversation. No music in the background disturbing you. Outside seats give lovely green back street perspective to pub. Only disappointment was when I tried to buy a Tshirt displayed with a 20 pound price and the visa machine read 29.50. The staff explained I had chosen a premium T. Confusing. Moving on.... Great selection of craft and real ale beers. Lovely.”

“Sitting outside in the laneway talking to locals was a real treat. Such a lovely atmosphere. Currently not serving food, but very well priced drinks and staff were happy to recommend other eateries. So nice, we stayed for a second!”

“First time visit- comfy sofa next to an old fireplace. Really cosy. Busy and loud great atmosphere. Enjoyed the cider and tried the hobbit ale- that was pure toe cheese, so will stick with the cider next time. Lovely staff- very friendly! Good music played”
