About Wild Mint

Set inside Golden Days Garden Centre, Wild Mint is a cafe in Wigan where you order and pay at the counter and take drinks with you on arrival, and with a single till a queue can build when the room fills. The kitchen runs through sandwiches, jacket potatoes and hot plates, with a specials board carrying dishes such as fish pie, while toasties and melts arrive with a portion of chips. Afternoon tea is pre-bookable, bringing finger sandwiches, a sausage roll, quiche, a scone with cream and jam and small cakes to the table, so groups can lock in a sitting before they travel. Booking ahead is recommended generally. High chairs make room for families with young children, dogs are welcome, and a step-free entrance serves visitors with mobility needs. The counter keeps a cake display, and the coffee list stretches to decaf and iced options. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

The cakes draw the most consistent praise, described as stunning and lovely across several visits, with one long-time regular naming the lemon meringue as a personal favourite. Savoury choices come up almost as often, cheese and ham toasties with chips, a fish pie special of salmon, cod and prawn in generous portions, a bacon sandwich and a tuna and cheese melt, alongside an Americano, a mild decaf latte and a strong iced vanilla latte. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, polite and chatty, and one visitor singles out a server who joked with nearby tables. The letdowns cluster around set meals: a pre-booked afternoon tea brought a soggy quiche and an unwarmed scone with no one checking back, another reviewer got a small breakfast of overcooked bacon, a broken egg and rubbery toast on a cold plate, and one afternoon tea arrived with no menu to explain the items. A few note noise, a single till causing a wait, and messy sofa seats. Several mention the drinks refill offer on the receipt, and one points out a dog menu.

We had a small breakfast each this morning at the Wild Mint Cafe. Small being the word 1 slice of overcooked bacon 1 egg broken 1 lonely mushroom and 1 hash brown that had been deep fried.Served on a cold plate with a piece of white rubbery toast. Very disappointing. Lady that served us was nice though.

Came for a spot of brunch with my partner and had a great experience. Food came quickly and was lovely. We're wanting to give a special mention to the lovely lady with short hair and tattoos, who made an effort to chat and have a laugh with us and nearby guests. It was really refreshing to see someone genuinely having a nice time at work and loved working with people, which you don't see often in customer service nowadays 😊. Keep it up!

Visited Golden Days Cafe today with my partner and we were genuinely impressed. It’s a beautiful space with thoughtful decor and comfortable seating, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. The staff were friendly, attentive, and personable, offering exceptional service with a smile. The coffee and food were great, we ordered a hot chocolate, cappuccino, bacon sandwich, tuna and cheese melt, and a portion of chips. We played it a bit safe considering the menu has such a wide variety, from homemade quiche to classic fish and chips. There really is something for everyone, especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth. The cakes are absolutely stunning. Highly recommend a visit.

Dog friendly . Breakfast until 1130am. Some sofa seats unusable due to mess. Plenty of seating available. Nice strong ice vanilla latte. Dog menu available. Menu includes things like sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes etc. Very friendly service 🙂

Had lunch here today, not our first visit and definitely not our last. The food is always top quality, our cheese and ham toasties and chips today were exceptional. The drinks refill offer with the receipt is also a fab initiative. The staff are all so friendly, so polite and so chatty, you just instantly feel welcomed and at home. Highly recommend.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
