About Fur Clemt Cafe & Food Outlet
Fur Clemt Cafe & Food Outlet is a cafe on Montrose Ave in Wigan and part of the Real Junk Food movement, which collects surplus food from suppliers so it reaches the community instead of going to landfill. The cafe runs a specials board, with meals such as liver and onion with mash and peas, and a nut burger with sweet potato fries and salad. Next door in spirit, the food outlet works as a pantry-style shop where staff serve shoppers at a counter. Stock includes fruit and veg bundles, free bread, pastries and cakes. First-time visitors get help from the team in understanding how the shop system works. The site also has classrooms that host cookery classes and community sessions.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for the community shop, where cut-price fruit and veg, free bread, and pastries and cakes let people shop on a budget. Several call the staff friendly and welcoming, and regulars describe stopping in a couple of times a week for a chat with the team. The cafe draws praise too. One pair ordered liver and onion with mash and peas and a nut burger with sweet potato fries, and found the food really nice and the tables spotless. Another reviewer was delighted with the flavours of an afternoon tea, and others single out the cakes and drinks. The service picture is not uniform, though. One reviewer felt talked down to by staff who kept saying what they could not do, and said they would not return. Another met a rude, unwelcoming staff member on two visits and suggested more training. Others describe the opposite, and one first-time visitor with disabilities was shown around and walked through how the system works.

“I have been here loads of times and lovely staff there but within the past four months or so a couple of times we have been served by a blonde lady. The first time she was very rude and told me to stand in an exact spot 'so I couldn't run of with the stuff' and the second time she gave a really unwelcoming atmosphere, I didn't realise it was the same woman but my husband remembered her face. Maybe look in to getting her more training as she doesn't make you want to come back”

“"Always love visiting Fur Clemt! It is easily one of the best food pantries around. The store has a wide selection of food, including 5 fruit/veg for £1.00 and FREE bread. They have an array of pastries and cakes (6 for 25p!) plus plenty of quality food at a fraction of supermarket prices. Fur Clemt perfectly bridges the gap between waste and landfill, helping the community save on essentials. Beyond the shop, they have classrooms for cookery classes and community sessions. It’s a business with a big heart and a key hub for the town. The cafe offers tasty food and a great specials board. The employees are welcoming and it’s great to see the management mucking in, too. On-site parking, disabled access, and toilets are all available. A*** If you found this review helpful, please give it a thumbs up! - Steve"”
