About Hinnies Restaurant
Hinnies Restaurant serves a seasonal comfort food menu rooted in North East cooking, at 10 E Parade on the Whitley Bay seafront. Pan Haggerty brings the regional side to the table as a North East classic, while the pan-roasted chicken breast is a recurring main and the sticky toffee pudding a recurring dessert. The kitchen introduces a new menu each season, and the chef adapts dishes for food intolerances. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all served, and the lunch special comes as a set menu of two or three courses. Cocktails, spritz and a wine list sit alongside the food, with wine pairings offered for each course. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Pan-roasted chicken breast is the dish diners mention most, with two calling it cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Close behind is sticky toffee pudding, while others single out the Pan Haggerty topped with a poached egg, the twice-baked crab soufflé, the crispy North Sea squid on saffron risotto and the chargrilled pork fillet with chorizo and black pudding. Reviewers describe comfort food plated closer to fine dining, with generous portions, good value, a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, and a couple suggest booking. One critical reviewer had a very different Sunday dinner: the black pudding starter was soft and greasy, the beef tough, the chicken breast dry and overcooked, the roast potatoes not roasted and the rhubarb stringy, though the welcome and wine list were praised. Regulars mention seasonal menus and a chef who adapts dishes for food intolerances, and one coeliac diner praised a gluten-free almond torte for days afterwards.

“Fantastic restaurant right on the sea front in Whitley Bay. It's self described as "comfort food" but prepared and plated a touch closer to fine dining. Portions were very generous too!”

“Another one of my favourite places. Always great food and great service and great experience. We love the lunch special deal and we do every season at least once. This meal was on summer menu. I got chicken with Potato gratin and summer greens in a sweetcorn and bacon cream sauce. My brother chose the breaded veal with potato and mushrooms in a gravy. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream for us both. Beautiful.”

“Thank you Hinnies! Once again we had a wonderful meal at Hinnies. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great with a good range of cocktails and wines and very good value. I think that this is their best menu ever and we have been coming here for many years. There’s a great choice and the staff are knowledgeable about the menu and are always attentive to my food intolerances. The chef will make alterations to accommodate. A brilliant restaurant to eat at.”

“Lovely little place, very welcoming. We enjoyed our 3 courses, empty plates all round. Looking forward to returning, to sample the next menu. Reasonably priced, perfect size portions, food was delicious, highly recommended 👌”

“May 2026 For those of you who live outside Northumberland, hinny is the equivalent of "honey" or "sweetheart". And that sets exactly the right tone for Hinnies . This lovely restaurant is just what you're looking for if you want to avoid the fish and chip frenzy and the ice cream and pizza queues. It describes itself as relaxed, warm and friendly , serving rustic and hearty geordie-influenced classics. and that nails it precisely. The welcome is as embracing as a warm hug and the food is superb. We wouldn't have known about it if we hadn't asked the receptionist at our hotel and we're so glad we asked. It's only a short walk from the heart of the tourist area and the instant you walk through the door you feel at home and you sigh in contentment. We both had pan roasted chicken breast as the main course which was absolutely delicious. I had sticky toffee pudding, possibly the best I've ever tasted and my wife, a coeliac, had gluten-free almond torte which she salivated over for several days. Although we visit Northumberland regularly, we hadn't been to Whitley Bay until a couple of months before this trip and we were captivated by it. If you're ever there...go to Hinnies t least once. You'll be forever glad that you did.”
