About Fisherman's Bay

On the Whitley Bay sea front at 6 E Parade, Fisherman's Bay is a fish and chip restaurant run by the Dhillon family, who have fifty years of experience in the trade. It was a finalist in the UK Top 10 Fish & Chips 2023. Fish is cooked to order, with cod and chips as the main plate and a sausage supper alongside it. Flame-grilled home-made burgers and gelato ice cream round out the menu. Indoor seating faces the beach, and English tea and a full range of coffee are served from the espresso machine. The business is fully licensed and serves draught beer.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the fish and chips, especially the cod with its crunchy batter, which several describe as cooked to order and moist inside, alongside generous portions of crispy chips. The curry sauce comes up repeatedly as nice, and one calls it epic. Close behind are the friendly staff, the seafront views and the outdoor seating, with a few mentioning draught Moretti. One reviewer praises the corned beef patties and another the Lite Bite Box as a bargain for its size. The main complaints concern value and pacing. One family waited a long stretch before anyone took their order, then again for the food, and their tea went cold. They also found the kids' meals the same size as the adults' despite a price gap. Another felt a sausage supper was small and was surprised at being charged for tomato sauce, though tomato sauce did come with the kids' meals. One diner felt they were intruding once moved outside.

“Bought to take away so can’t comment on atmosphere. Beautiful moist piece of fish with crispy batter. Chips were beautifully crispy. Best fish & chips I've ever had. The smaller portion of fish was plentiful & there were far more chips than I could eat”

“Beautiful fish and chips. The cod is massive with nice crunchy batter and the portion of chips was more than adequate. They were cooking the fish to order aswell. They have indoor restaurant and then outdoor seating for takeaway. There's nice views of the beach. We were not disappointed. We also tried the curry sauce that was really nice too. Whenever we come back we will eat here when we want fish and chips.”

“Great food everyone loved what they had. It was well cooked and tasted great. The only downside was the size I could have gone for two sausages on my sausage supper. Service was good but lacking a smile (it might have been a bad day). Outdoor seating and selection of alcoholic drinks also was a nice touch. Charging for tomato sauce given the price was a bit steep but on the plus side it was a nice surprise to find tomato sauce in the kids meals.”

“Hands down the best fish and chips in the North. The staff were absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere made the whole experience even better. Fish and chips just hit differently when you’re enjoying them by the beachfront. Such a lovely town with a great vibe all around.”

“Great food, up there with some of the best fish and chips I’ve tried. Service was good but once we moved outside it felt like we were intruding. Overall a great place to have fish and chips.”
