About The Delaval Arms
The Delaval Arms is a Grade II listed pub on Seaton Sluice in Whitley Bay, housed in a mid-18th-century stone building where the Blue Room has a fire in winter. The bar pours hand-pulled cask beers alongside other draught beers. In the kitchen, the Delaval Burger and fish pie sit on the menu, and the Sunday roast comes with a large Yorkshire pudding. Gluten-free options are available, with allergen notes marked on the menu. Tables can be booked online, and a private dining room gives groups a space of their own. One area of the bar is set aside for dogs and fitted with booths. A caravan and motorhome park is nearby.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the Sunday roast, with reviewers praising the slow roast beef and a lamb dinner with a massive Yorkshire pud, and several note the Yorkshire puddings and gravy-ready sides are gluten free. Close behind are the fish dishes, including red mullet with a creamy samphire sauce, a fish pie, and what one coeliac reviewer calls the best gluten free fish and chips they have had. Others single out the Delaval Burger, a crispy beef fillet starter, and caramel miso belly pork. Staff earn repeated praise as welcoming and friendly, and two reviewers describe a server or team who marked up the menu for allergens and explained cross contamination steps. Dogs are welcome, and several mention booking the dog friendly area and a snug booth. One reviewer found the room really cold, and another calls the prices a little expensive. Staff swiftly offered the cold-room reviewer another seat in a snug in the bar area.

“We chose the Delaval Arms as a place to eat because it was conveniently situated on the main route whilst on our way to Ashington. These things are always a bit of a gamble but everything was excellent. The initial greeting was warm and welcoming, the menu choice had something for everyone and the young team attended to us with lovely smiles on their faces. All in all this was a great experience.”

“Called in for an impromptu beer after a day exploring. Place and staff felt very welcoming to the point we decided to stay for dinner. Fish pie and Delaval Burger and WOW both were absolutely superb. Side of seasonal vegetables, second pint and a Prosecco (for me) made the whole thing perfect. They even handled my ‘dietary tweeks smoothly’, salad instead of chips and burger well cooked (my choice😊)… It’s rare we find anywhere that actually meets all our needs but this place really did. Price point was great - circa £80: - £20 pound on drinks and the remaining £60 on two courses each. Comfortable and tasty, with an easily accessible location and a brilliant coastal path leading to Whitley Bay/Tynemouth or Seaton Sluice just down the road. Wholly recommend- we will definitely go back! NB: Right by a fantastic, peaceful caravan/motor home site (Old Hartley) and around 2.6 miles walk from Whitley Bay.”

“We have called in many times now whilst using the nearby caravan and motorhome park. It’s literally 200 yards away so very handy. We always book on line which is easy to do, and make sure that the reservation is in the dog friendly area of the bar, which often means a snug little booth which is perfect. The menu is exciting and doesn’t just offer up the usual ‘bar food’ standard fayre. Our food was well cooked, tasty, moist and plentiful. The drink selection was equally extensive and my wine certainly hit the spot. The staff are welcoming and friendly and have the perfect balance of attentiveness but not ‘in your face’. To top it off the decor is a funky mix of old and new giving an overall fresh but comfortable vibe.”

“Have been a few times for drinks and love the decoration in the bar. Plenty of places to sit with outdoor space too which is lovely in the summer. Had Sunday lunch a few weeks ago and genuinely can't wait to come back. Had lamb and it was delicious and really well cooked, plenty of yummy veg and a massive Yorkshire pud. We also shared a dessert which looked very good and tasted super nice too. The service was spot on: quick and friendly! During our drink in the bar afterwards we were treated to the presence of plenty of dogs which is a massive plus for me!”
