Quick info
About The Dolphin
The Dolphin is a pub in North Shields and the oldest pub in the area, serving modern British dishes and pub classics made with locally sourced ingredients. A tapas deal pairs three plates with two glasses of wine, and the plates include Hoisin pulled pork pancakes and Thai fish cakes. The bar pours beers, ales, spirits, cocktails and wines, and live sport plays across four screens. A weekly quiz night gives regulars a reason to gather, and dogs are welcome. The pub has a large dining area, plus a function room that fits 40 plus for groups. Paintings hang on the walls, and they are for sale.

Customer Review Summary
Tapas draws the most praise. Diners single out hoisin pulled pork pancakes, Thai fish cakes, harissa lamb patties and a chickpea and sweet potato Goan coconut curry as homemade, freshly cooked and generous, and a tapas and wine deal comes up in more than one review. Sunday lunch sits close behind, with one reviewer getting loads of all four meats on the mixed plate and another calling it beautiful. Reviewers describe the new owners as welcoming and friendly, and the function room that fits forty plus suited a family get-together. The sharpest complaint is about the fish and chips. One diner found the double cooked chips limp and soggy and the small portion to be thin, overcooked fish, and the replacement arrived with the same chips after microwaving and no compensation. One reviewer called the bookcase wallpaper naff. Another, whose group booked Christmas dinner, was treated to a vegan cheesecake because of a dairy allergy.

“Great pub with lovely food. We came on Tuesday night (quiz night which we didn't realize!). They have a £30 tapas deal on, which is 3 plates and 2 glasses of wine for £30. Really good and the tapas was excellent. They also sell the paintings on the wall, which is interesting.”

“Booked my Christmas dinner here with six of my dearest friends and had the most fantastic time. Lovely pub, great staff and the food is really good. Also, the pub catered for my dairy allergy, they were so kind that they even treated me to a vegan cheesecake. To receive such warm and dedicated customer service is rare these days. Priceless.”
