About Duke of Clarence Hampton Hill
Duke of Clarence Hampton Hill is a gastropub in Hampton at 147 High St, and it trades again under its original name after a spell with a different one. The menu is small, with chicken thighs, chicken schnitzel and steak, plus house chips on the side. A Sunday roast is also served. At the bar, Cruzcampo comes on draught, and a cocktail menu runs alongside it for anyone who wants a mixed drink instead. The building has a conservatory as well as its main rooms. Tables can be booked online, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the centre of most visits, with reviewers describing plates so full one could not finish, food arriving quickly after ordering, and a table beside the kitchen where diners watched their plates being prepared. Pints of Cruzcampo on draught and after-dinner cocktails come close behind, and the garden and conservatory are also singled out. Staff are called friendly, welcoming and attentive, and one party was surprised with a birthday pudding sung by three members of staff after mentioning the occasion on a booking form. Other diners praise a steak and a chicken schnitzel, and one reports a two-course lunch at a reasonable price. The main caveat is cost and portion. One reviewer found the salmon greasy and swimming in butter, with a small fillet and a handful of spinach, and would return only for drinks in the garden. Another calls the menu small and slightly pricier, citing four chicken thighs and a side of house chips, though still happy with the taste and service.

“Good value 2 courses for a reasonable lunch were £13. Nice conservatory and garden. 3.5 stars”

“Lovely pub, staff is delightful. However... The food was some of the worst I've seen. Ordered the salmon. It was SWIMMING in butter (solid weeks worth of butter). It tasted greasy. The portion was also rather pathetic. Tiniest little salmon fillet with a handful of spinach on a vinyl record sized plate that is covered in butter.... Will definitely go back for drinks, the atmosphere is delightful in the garden! But not food.”

“Yet another fabulous meal at the Duke of Clarence, this time for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious as always (and there was actually so much on my plate I couldn’t finish it!) and the service was friendly and efficient. What really made our visit special this time was that the staff brought out a special birthday pudding for my husband, complete with 3 members of staff singing Happy Birthday! This came as a complete surprise as I had mentioned on my online booking form that it was his birthday but had completely forgotten this and hadn’t given them any reminder when we arrived. Fantastic customer service!”

“Great pub with a lovely outside area and very friendly staff! Couldn't be more welcoming. We've been here a few times now and the food is always superb. Will be back here again!”

“Thank you so much for an amazing setting for our birthday on Saturday. We had a lovely time celebrating my babies first birthday and my birthday in a joint celebration in the garden. The staff were attentive and accommodating as always and the food and drink were first class. We love the Duke of Clarence so much and my little girl had the best day ever”
