About The Spice Vault

The Spice Vault is a bar at 16 Stafford Rd in Walsall, set in a former pub that was previously the New Masons. Tables carried over from the pub era are still in use in the bar. The kitchen sends out a grandma-style chicken curry, with spiced french fries as a side. Pink gin comes in a decorative glass, and the beer is served cold. Parking is on a hill at the back of the venue.

Customer Review Summary

The criticism centres on value and consistency. One reviewer found the curries OK but heavy on rice, and thought a small portion of spiced french fries was cheeky for the price, calling it pub food at premium prices. Another visiting on a quiet Friday waited a long stretch between starters and mains, saw one main arrive missing, and received a madras ordered extra spicy that tasted like a masala. Staff asked repeatedly if everything was fine, but the group kept eating rather than wait for a remake, and the reviewer said they would not return.

“We finally got around to visiting here on 8 October 2026. We've got quite a good selection of great Indian restaurants and takeaways in the area so it had a high bar set to reach. What can I say... The food was incredible! Service was great and I am told by my husband that the beer is great and kept well. We can't wait to return and would highly recommend a visit. The owner is such a lovely guy too. Just visit!”

“Pub food at premium prices served on the tables from the New Masons days. Curries were OK if very heavy on the rice and almost a fiver for a small portion of french fries sprinkled with spice is cheeky to say the least. With the variety , quality and value for money Indian cuisine in the local area I think this place will struggle.”

“We went on a Friday night at 8pm, being as it had recently opened we thought it would be busy. We got there and there were only three other tables being used. By 8:30 we were the only group in there. The waiting staff were great and made sure we had drinks and took the order timely. The starters took around 20-30 minutes to arrive and were tasty and plentiful. The mains then took another 30 minutes to arrive, this seemed long due to there being no one else in there, most of the food arrived with one main missing. Again with no one else in there making sure 7 main meals were present shouldn’t have been difficult. One of the group ordered a madras extra spicy when it arrived it tasted like a masala. We heard the staff taking about the meal by the kitchen and were asked by 3 different staff if everything was ok. We had already started eating and didn’t want to wait for it to be cooked again so just carried on with it. Although the food was tasty, 2 out of the 7 meals had issues. When you’re the only people in the restaurant and you’re charging city prices this shouldn’t really be happening. Cost wise it worked out to around £45 per head which is fine for exceptional food and service but in Bloxwich/Great Wyrley there are cheaper places with better food and services. The atmosphere was none existent due to there being no one else in the building even the bar was empty. Such as great spot for an up market Indian restaurant but the flaws need to be ironed out! Hopefully you can work these out but we won’t be returning anytime soon. Just to note we parked on the hill at the back when we came out it was pitch black with an uneven surface, for people with mobility or sight issues this could be an issue. Maybe a couple of lights would help.”
