Quick info
About The Good Yarn
The Good Yarn is a pub at 132 High St in Uxbridge, with wood panelling, carpeted floors and a long bar. The bar pours cask ales, including local London ones. The food runs through the day, with fish and chips, fried scampi and a chicken wings bucket with dips among the dishes. Breakfast is served as well, including on Sunday mornings. Orders are placed through a QR code or the app rather than at the bar. Booth seating gives groups a place to settle in, and the pub works on a walk-in basis. Water is self-serve, and dogs are not allowed. Slot machines stand at the front of the pub, and the bathrooms are upstairs.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the fried scampi, with one having two portions alone, and close behind are the breaded cod with chips and peas and a chicken wings bucket with spicy and garlic mayo dip. Others praise the cask ales, including local London ones, and the generous quantities. Breakfast with family on a Sunday morning is a repeated draw, and one visitor with a disabled brother describes a warm welcome from the bar manager at lunch. The main complaints concern the building and the service. One diner describes a booth with cheap blue plastic seat covers and graffiti etched across the table, with the toilets also needing redecorating. One reviewer waited a long time for an app-ordered drink, was told to wait by a rude staff member, and then found lipstick stains on the glass. Another describes being barred from the fruit machine and then the pub after complaining about a manager's abrupt manner. A few object to the ban on dogs. Water that customers pour themselves gets a mention as a small plus.

“I don’t like the display because there is no Polish flag. I don’t understand what this is meant to represent. Krzysztof”

“I go in Wetherspoons The Good Yarn most mornings to have breakfast and/or bottomless coffee. Only drink I have is free soda due to alcohol issues. I also play the fruit machine a fair bit. I'm always quiet and keep myself to myself. I went in there in the morning mid week, but I'd already had a big breakfast and coffee in Premier Inn so just stuck to free soda water to hydrate. I did play the fruit machine for a fair while. Eventually went to bar to get a soda water refill and the lady manager told very abruptly and rudely in front of other customers that I was not allowed to play the fruit machine anymore as I had not bought anything. If she'd said it politely I'd have been fine, but not the way she did it. I was upset and embarrassed but kept my cool. I logged a complaint online with Wetherspoons with all of the above, they replied back to say it is to take in up with pub management, they.could not do anything. I was not happy about that but.shrugged my shoulders. I went there on Saturday, the barman said I'd been banned. When I asked him why he said that is what management said. I asked to speak to one of the managers, he said they were both out at present. When I asked when they were in he said "That's confidential"???????. Eventually a lady supervisor spoke to me, when I asked her why I'd been barred she said (and I quote) "Because you made complaint". I told her that was just spiteful retaliation. I've told Wetherspoons customer services to escalate this complaint as given the circumstances their advice for me to talk to the pub managers and expect to be fairly heard is just ridiculous..”

“Overall a decent little spoons, the staff are really nice and its run well but wow is this place in need of a refit! We sat in a booth which has the old fabric upholstery on the back rests bit the seats have been very very cheaply recovered in a hideous blue pvc plastic which was no doubt intended as a temporary measure and has now been there years. That, along with the teenage desk graffiti etched all over the table (and I do mean all over it) gives a feeling that you are eating in a badly treated bus stop on a school route. Same in the toilets which need redecorating. Shame, as these basic fixes are really letting down an otherwise nice pub.”

“A brilliant experience here mostly due to Colin the bar manager. Brought my brother who has disabilites in for lunch and couldnt have received a warmer welcome. Haven't been to Wetherspoon for over 20 years as now live in Australia. What a wonderful host. He deserves a raise!!. Thanks also to Lilly our waitress. We will be back again before the long flight home. Thanks Colin x”

“I am highly disappointed by Wetherspoon's strict ban on dogs. It feels incredibly outdated and backward for a major hospitality chain in a developed nation to exclude pets completely. Dog-friendly venues are the standard now, not the exception. By sticking to this old-fashioned policy, they are completely alienating a massive community of responsible pet owners. It's time to modernise.”
