Quick info
About Waters Edge Marsworth
Waters Edge Marsworth is a family-run canalside restaurant in Tring, on Lock 39. A kids' games trolley and crayons give children something to do at the table, and dogs are welcome too. Orders are brought to the table, and drinks are also served at the bar. The menu starts with a breakfast menu and runs through paninis and homemade soups to a double smash burger and a New York Reuben. Coffee and cake are served as well, with a salted caramel brownie among the sweet options, and the kitchen works with local suppliers. Small flower pots with table numbers sit on every table.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the most frequent draw, called good or great by several reviewers, with hot chocolate mentioned alongside it. Close behind are the sweet items: a salted caramel brownie described as very delicious, a coffee cake, and a fresh banana shake. One reviewer also praises the breakfast of sourdough bread and bacon. Reviewers like the canal location, the seating outside and undercover, the small flower pots with table numbers, and a calming atmosphere. One describes good service for a large group, and another held an anniversary party here. The recurring complaint is slow service. Reviewers describe very long waits for sandwiches with few tables seated, beers brought to the table long after ordering instead of poured at the bar, and a burger meal handed to the wrong table. One burger arrived without the lettuce and tomato on the menu, and another was called cheap quality meat. The New York Reuben was delicious. Two reviewers mention a refund, one for part of a meal and one for a forgotten extra chip.

“We stopped here for refreshments (my wife and I with our 8 year old son). We had a lovely coffee each and james choose a fresh banana shake and a slice of coffee cake. Absolutely divine and a well earned treat on our canal bike ride. Great location right on the canal”

“As another review mentioned, could be a gem, great location, parking, next to canal, etc etc. Unfortunately it falls short of the mark. Unsteady tables covered in off grey plastic covers with dirty chairs. Kids pot full of broken crayons and had to hunt for the kids picture for my daughter to do. Coffee was good, but that was it. Cake was sickly sweet and the one I wanted “frozen” but took a long conversation with the mumbling staff to work that out. Massive shame. Update. Odd response. I did rate the food as three. Coffee good. Rest not. 3 seems fair. My issue wasn’t with a “frozen” cake. It’s that you had a cake out that could not be served. My point stands. Ref the comments about games, “free” bits of paper and pencils, a bit bizarre to be honest. Pencils were a mess, no staff brought anything over for my 2 year old and you have a curious pride in the tatty games trolley. No mention of mumbly staff, lack of service (I had to walk up and order myself) or wobbly tables, but that’s fine. I’m wrong of course and leaving an honest review has clearly caused ire but makes no difference. I won’t be back in a hurry.”

“We visited today and there were only about eight tables seated but still had to wait just under an hour for our sandwiches. The poor girl front of house said it was due to the morning backlog and only two people allowed in the kitchen. I've no idea how they can cater for a full house with an extensive menu. Everyone there was incredibly unhappy with the slow service and we should've gone with our first instinct (after hearing the complaints) to give it a pass, so that's definitely on us. Food was ok, average at best.”

“Such a shame. This place could be amazing but the quality of food is pretty terrible if I’m honest. Our daughter loves a burger, she took one bite of this “burger” and said it’s yuk. Very cheap quality meat. My partner’s meal was another story. Lack of gluten free options The young lady who served us was very well versed in dealing with complaints it seemed and we were refunded part of the meal. If you are in any rush or super hungry I would avoid.”

“What an absolutely amazing place. We had our Anniversary party here and I cannot fault anything. Everything was lovely from the service, food, ambiance and the staff. I would definitely recommend any celebration here as the set up is amazing and the girls who run the place are brilliant.”
