About Wild Restaurant

Wild Restaurant is a modern British restaurant in Berkhamsted, at 247-249 High St, that takes its identity from the family farm in Radlett, and even its logo traces the contours of that land. The menu is built around small plates to share, with a feasting menu for larger tables. Mushroom parfait comes with crispy sourdough, and the pork tomahawk is one of the larger dishes. Flatbread appears with cheese and honey, and it also wraps ox cheek. The kitchen is open, and a table near the pass lets diners talk with the chef. Tables are walk-in. Staff explain each dish and drink as it arrives, and a sommelier works the wine list, which sits alongside sake and cocktails.

Good to know

“Welcome to WILD, a restaurant paying homage to our bountiful farm in Radlett. Here, everything is rooted in the land, from our logo to our plates, to the very ethos that guides us. Even our emblem is a subtle contour of the farm’s topography, a quiet nod to the terrain from which we draw our sustenance.”

Customer Review Summary

The mushroom parfait is the dish diners raise most, described as rich in flavour and texture, with one reviewer comparing it to a chocolate mousse and another stressing it as a must try. One suggests asking for crispy sourdough to balance the richness. Close behind are the pork dishes, especially the pork tomahawk, along with the flatbread, the sirloin and the carrots. Others single out the charred mackerel, the celeriac, the ox cheek and a Tarte Tatin with a huge portion. Servers and a sommelier are called friendly and knowledgeable, taking time to explain dishes and drinks, and the wine list, sake and cocktails draw praise. The room is described as relaxed, unpretentious and welcoming, with an open kitchen, and a few reviewers made the trip from London. One diner whose husband has a slight hazelnut allergy reports that the chefs practically made a bespoke hazelnut chocolate tart with rhubarb instead.

“We had a wonderful evening at Wild, one of the best meals I have had in a long time . Our waitress, I think she was the manager ,, was fun attentive and very knowledgeable. The food was exquisite and beautifully executed. We sat at the table near the pass so had the pleasure of chatting to the chef. Fab wine and beers. We loved the monkfish, stuffed courgettes, flat bread with cheese and honey, sea bream and pork chop , not too mention the mushroom parfait! We loved it all and will be back. Thank you!!”

“Wild is a breath of fresh air. Beautiful, clean design with a genuinely warm, welcoming feel. Service is friendly, knowledgeable and unpretentious. The charred mackerel was outstanding, and the celeriac so full of flavour, a must try! The mushroom parfait was something else, as rich and satisfying as a divine chocolate mousse. Thoughtful, sustainable cooking paired with an exceptional wine list, Chartier-crafted sake and seriously inventive and memorable cocktails. Well worth the short trip out of Euston - a calm escape from central London. A true destination, worth every minute and every penny. Thank you Matt, Remi and Team!”

“Really enjoyed Wild – it fits in perfectly with Berkhamsted. The atmosphere is great: cosy, stylish and well thought out, and the open kitchen adds to it without feeling too intrusive. Service was spot on. Chloe and Athea were friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain each dish as it came out, which was a nice touch. Food was excellent throughout. We had the mushroom parfait, spelt risotto and pollock to start, followed by the sirloin for mains – all really good. That’s only some of what we tried, but honestly you could pick anything on the menu and have a great meal. Food overall was a solid 10/10. I’m not much of a wine drinker, but the list looked pretty extensive. Already planning the next visit. Would definitely recommend.”
