Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff and the food, with bangers and mash and a loaded baked spud described as out of this world, and several call the meals tasty and very reasonably priced. One server is repeatedly praised for looking after regulars, and a few describe the bar staff as efficient, polite and quick with orders. Guinness at the outdoor seating and the location near the train station, seafront and pier also draw mentions. The complaints are specific. One group found tables not wiped, slow bar service, doughy and undercooked pizzas, and greasy poppadoms, while another reviewer says the fish was thin and the chips seemed kept warm under a lamp. One reviewer says a bar worker was hostile, asked for ID three times and refused a staff discount, and another describes a manageress with a miserable face. Decor is called in need of refurbishment, and one diner notes the chips have a wheat coating, leaving little gluten free choice and no new potatoes as a side.

“Im afraid to say this isnt one of the best weatherspoons and we have visited quite few up and down the country. The decor was in need of refurbishment and the food was not up to standard. I had fish and chips. The fish was very thin compared to other spoons and the chips seemed as if they had been kept warm under a lamp. Needless to say. We were disappointed.”

“Was served a few days ago by the blue haired girl at the bar. No sense of professionalism and seemed almost hostile towards myself and my girlfriend. She asked for our id 3 different times before finally getting us our drinks. My girlfriend works for a different spoons and is entitled to discount however the staff lady refused to give it saying she doesn't believe someone like her would get hired! Please talk to this member of staff about being kind and respectful towards customers as we also witnessed her sighing and rushing a man who was struggling to speak only to end up walking away and refusing to serve the man.”

“There is one guy called Jack who is absolutely amazing. We are regulars and he is always really friendly with us. I’ve heard that he has just been promoted to manager. I’m sure he will do a fantastic job! Well done Jack and thank you for always looking after us!”

“We visited Paignton for a four day break this week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Each evening we went to The Talk Of The Town for a few drinks and a meal to follow. This place really needs special praise for lots of reasons, the food is gorgeous, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and we must mention one staff member in particular ( Jack ) who served us on one particular evening and he was so friendly, so thorough, and boy did he cover some miles but kept smiling the whole time. Also the bar staff serving are very efficient and polite while remaining very aware. The atmosphere in this pub is extremely friendly and we always felt at home. As for the food the wife had bangers and mash and I had a loaded baked spud which were both out of this world so here comes the question which does bug us both ( and probably others too ) ?. If you pass a garage who’s fuel is a few pence per litre more expensive than another garage nearby you will obviously choose the cheaper one so why sit in other pubs paying through the nose when you can pop in to a Wetherspoons for super food and drink prices. The business model of this establishment is incredible.”
