About Below Decks
Below Decks is a modern British restaurant in Torquay at 4 Beacon Quay, with seats that look out over the harbour and the boats in the marina. A live duo and a band play on site, and a DJ plays on busier days, so the room works for an evening built around music. The British menu includes mussels, the Below Decks burger and a seafood platter. A full bar sits alongside the kitchen. Breakfast is also served, with dishes adapted for vegetarians and for food allergies.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the live music, whether a DJ or a country blues duo, alongside a harbourside spot by the boats, and the mussels, described as large and fabulous with delicious bread, are the dish named most warmly. Close behind is the staff, called friendly and welcoming, with one group of nine getting their Christmas meals out together and others describing adapted vegetarian breakfast dishes and a bespoke dessert for a food allergy. Also praised are a warm goats cheese salad with walnuts, Hobgoblin ale on tap and cheesy fries with properly melted cheese. The criticism is specific. One diner found the Below Decks burger large but short on sauce, with pulled pork that added little, and called the Cajun prawns the same as anywhere. Another said the seafood platter and the head bartender's manner felt like prison catering, and a third waited 40 minutes for food on a bank holiday weekend. Dogs are welcome inside and out, and one diner's allergy-friendly dessert was made from scratch.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely loved this place! We decided to visit on a weekday because when we walked past on the weekend, there was a DJ playing and the venue was packed with people. It turned out to be the perfect choice. We were able to sit right by the boats in the marina, enjoying the beautiful views and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. When they found out that we are vegetarians, they were more than happy to adapt dishes from the breakfast menu for us. Everything was fresh, delicious, and prepared with great care. The combination of fantastic food, excellent service, and the stunning waterfront location made our visit truly memorable. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!”

“Great location, cool atmosphere, shame the people serving you make you feel like youre in a prison mess. Most notably the head female bartender. We ordered the seafood platter for £45 and honestly would have been served that in prison too. Only recommend for a nice spot for a drink but wouldnt suggest eating there”

“Im here right now... This place is great. Good food. Staff are amazing and could not do enough for me in accommodating my food allergies. They made a bespoke dessert as they were out of some items and honestly so kind with it all. Music is fab - Go Tell Alice. Really fun duo, not just basic covers but do everything to their country blues style. Atmosphere is great. All patrons fun and respectful. Couldn't have asked for a better relaxed, fun dinner out. Definitely recommend 👌”

“Wow what an amazing place. Been lucky to have dined here a few times but my 1st Christmas meal here. From the moment I stepped in the restaurant I was treated so well. All the staff were welcoming and super efficient. Food was delicious and came out at the same time for a group of 9. We will be back”
