Quick info
About The Chippy
The Chippy is a fish and chips takeaway on Seaway Road in Paignton, serving classic fry-ups alongside seafood, burgers and chicken options. The kitchen turns out the familiar range, from battered cod and haddock to pies, with a meal deal that pairs two jumbo battered sausages with chips, a sauce and a drink. The Counter operates as a walk-in, and a queue often builds at peak times as orders are worked through in number sequence. Delivery runs through Just Eat to the surrounding streets, where waits of up to around two hours have been reported at busy periods. The venue now trades under new ownership.

“I want to clarify that this chippy is my regular. The food is good and the staff are generally pleasant. I've never left a review before because I'm not picky and am generally pretty chill. That being said, I had a horrible experience recently that left a sour taste in my mouth. So after a very long day, I needed some quick food purely out of convenience. I'm a very reasonable person, so understood that the venue was busy so there could be a substantial wait. For that reason, I just ordered chips thinking that of course there would always be chips prepared to be served. It was an easy win to get in and out quickly. What a mistake that was. I was flabbergasted that the staff methodically worked through every order in number sequence regardless of what was ordered. I waited over half an hour for food that was ready when I walked in because I had to wait for massive complex orders to be cooked and served first. Why wouldn't you use your initiative and smash out the quick orders while the fish etc was cooking? The chips were literally ready and the staff just stood there waiting for the next ticket in line to go. I'm annoyed because I'll now think twice before going here and will probably walk away if there's more than a couple of people waiting. I'm not sure if staff are specifically instructed to resolved orders this way but it was ridiculous. Again, I've never had an issue with the food.”

“Waited 2 hours for delivery and the food wasn't that clever”

“We used to use this chip shop all the time through just eat but the couple of orders we had made us both ill with so much grease unfortunately, not sure if it was a few issues at the time but not nice fish at all and we used to love the family boxes but we now use another in Brixham.”

“I asked for large cod with a sliver of batter. What i got was chunks of overcooked batter & the fish barely filled a teaspoon ! The chips were no better as too greasy. This used to be the best chip shop for quality of food but it must be new ownership. I feel scammed ! I do not anticipate this new owner lasting too long & nor should it.”

“Main aim was the London Fryer however having seen the queue I decided to try the Chippy. So glad I did fish was beautiful and flakey, the chips were gorgeous and the mushy peas were mushy not a blob of green like some places. Overall the whole meal was almost grease free and extremely tasteful well done I will be back.”
