About The Orange Tree Restaurant
The Orange Tree Restaurant is a small restaurant at 14-16 Parkhill Rd in Torquay, run by a husband-and-wife team. The husband works as chef and the wife is the owner, and she and the staff are on hand throughout the meal. The taster menu is served with wine, including red wine and port. Steak runs through the menu, with tournedos served with wild mushroom and shallots, and another steak topped with crispy fried onions in a rich sauce. Both the menu and the decor follow a traditional, old-school style. The restaurant opens for evenings only, Tuesday to Saturday, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to The Orange Tree for the food itself, with the steak topped with crispy fried onions and the tournedos with wild mushroom and shallots singled out, and the lobster bisque, sea bass and hake also named. Reviewers describe the plates as beautifully presented and the service as friendly and attentive, with one noting the care taken over a nut allergy and another mentioning a last-minute birthday booking. A Baileys White Chocolate Cheesecake is recommended by one reviewer. The strongest criticism is cost and consistency. One reviewer calls the pricing very steep, paying twice as much as at other good Torquay restaurants, and describes the menu as dated. Another, who had the taster menu, reports part-baked bread rolls, dry duck breast, beef stuck to the plate, underdone beans, a sticky carpet, a dessert that had run out, and a bill £10 above the advertised price. A third found the taster menu's red wine and port not to their taste and wanted a second piece of bread with the parfait. One reviewer notes a quiet Saturday night with few customers, and several say they will be back.

“What a lovely time we had in this quiet small restaurant - yet an exquisite fine dining find of a restaurant in Torquay - The Orange Tree Restaurant. The husband (renowned chef)and wife team (owners) with staff, were so personable, lovely conversation when they were not giving professional attention to the fine dining experience! They made us feel so welcome and took the highest of care as I have an allergy to NUTS. Superb attention and care, making sure I was safe and enjoying the experience! Thank You! Fresh ingredients cooked to order. It was so good we went back a second time before we left the area! Oh try the Baileys White Chocolate Cheesecake! Amazing!”

“What a gem of a restaurant! Menu choice was very good and food was absolutely delicious. A wonderful fine dining experience. I had the lobster bisque to start which so flavoursome. For mains, we had sea bass and I had the hake. Presentation was impeccable throughout. Service was wonderful and friendly. Wine and drinks were also just perfect. Will definitely be back.”

“We had such a wonderful dining experience here. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The food was truly excellent and beautifully presented. We especially loved the steak, which came topped with crispy fried onions and served with a rich, flavorful sauce. It is rare to find such attention to detail in every dish. We felt so well looked after throughout the entire meal. It was the perfect spot for our celebration. We will definitely be back soon.”

“Very attentive and friendly service; interesting though somewhat dated / old-school menu. Food tasted good. I didn't give it five stars, because it is very steeply priced - ended up paying twice as much as in other very good restaurants in Torquay.”
