About Hamilton Russell Arms
Hamilton Russell Arms is a gastropub in Stockton On Tees, on Thorpe Thewles, with a restaurant area and a bar area kept separate. A real log fire and a pool table sit alongside the dining, and dogs are welcome in the pub. The kitchen cooks from scratch with seasonal produce, and the menu includes a Scotch egg and beef cheeks. Roast dinners come with Yorkshire puddings, roasties and gravy, and a fish and chips or scampi deal is also on offer. A gluten-free menu covers options for coeliacs. The pub also hosts large family gatherings and events, which makes it a fit for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast and the staff, with the service repeatedly called friendly and attentive, including at a wedding reception and a family lunch of twelve. Diners name the scotch egg, kofta, quesadilla, beef cheeks that pulled away with little resistance, and a gluten-free cheesy beans baked potato, alongside desserts and a good pint. Prices are described as affordable for a pub. The roast also draws the sharpest complaints: two reviewers found the gravy bland or tasteless, one said the Yorkshire pudding was dry and likely cooked hours earlier, another said the Yorkshire puddings weren't home made, and the meat was called thin or overly chewy, with tough roasties. One reviewer thought a small coleslaw side was expensive. Dogs are welcome throughout, which one guest liked and another with an allergy said would keep them from returning. The log fire in the bar area and outdoor seating come up too, though one family moved indoors because wasps took an interest in their food.

“We visited today 4th October with my son in laws family from Mexico. Service and food was exceptional, I had the beef cheeks which pulled away with little resistance and tasted lovely. The ladies who looked after us were great even though the small children left a bit of a mess”

“Delicious lunch with a friend and kids. Lovely staff and quick service. Good price too. Started outside but the wasps took too much interest in our food so headed inside.”

“Service & desserts great, waitress’ really tentative… probably the best service in a pub I’ve had in a long time. Sunday dinner was quite the let down. Really thin bits of meat, gravy was tasteless & the Yorkshire puddings weren’t home made. Roasties were OK but weren’t very tasty. Service & dessert was 10/10.”

“We recently had our wedding reception at the Hamilton Russell and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. The pub is a family favourite with a few big events held there - so it meant a lot to be there on our wedding day. Staff were amazing in the run up and on the day. Super helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make it special for us. Thanks a lot! X”
