Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, helpful staff, who are described as going out of their way, helping one parent position a pram, and speaking Polish to a visiting friend. The food gets steady praise too, with the caesar salad in generous portions, a lovely breakfast, great coffee and a gorgeous hen party buffet named by reviewers. The outdoor space with a covered area and the chilled atmosphere also come up. The main complaint is slow food. One group had overcooked eggs on toast and asked three times for a dog bowl, another found the wait too long for burgers and a tart, and a busy Saturday also brought a delay. Other criticisms include a steak sandwich served blue instead of medium rare, packet-style waffles for children, and only two standard vegan choices. One family said a bar staff member asked them to laugh more quietly and warned they would have to leave, so they cut their evening short. Even so, the sausage and bread earned praise from one reviewer who had a long wait.

“We waited 50 minutes for 3 x eggs on toast + sausage, and sadly the eggs were overcooked when they arrived. We also had to ask three times for a dog bowl. That said, the sausage was outstanding, and the bread was excellent too.”

“I have to say that this was the first time we have been based on recommendations. We came in for pre birthday drinks on a Tuesday evening at 17:00pm. We was originally sat outside but went inside due to the weather. We sat in a booth furthest from the bar and the whole place had only 5 people in. We had a party of 4 adults and 2 children. We had a complaint from Stephen the bar staff asking us to stop laughing so loud as he could not hear another customer. We felt really uncomfortable after this, especially as he said we'd have to leave if not quieter. We'd spent over £100 in over half an hour. As a result, we rang the restaurant we was going to, to see if we could get in earlier as we felt we needed to get out of there! Really disappointing and embarrassing,we will not be going again and we will be sharing our experience with as many people as we can as this was not how I wanted to spend pre birthday drinks with my family and the rudeness of he staff made us feel not welcome!!!”

“Would give service 10 stars if I could! We have been taking my grandma who has dementia here for the past couple years and can’t recommend Rocksalt highly enough. It has a range of different dishes, wraps, burgers, brunch and breakfast items as well as coffees, juices, alcoholic drinks and more. The food is always delicious, it looks appetising and comes in generous portions, always leaving us feeling happy and full! The drinks are also very ‘instagrammable’ and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is nice and chilled and it has a range of seating, tables booths etc. there is also a lovely outdoor space with lots of benches and tables which is great when the sun is shining (and a covered area for the usual Manchester rain). The staff are amazing, very friendly and happy to go out their way to accommodate any requests. They have always made sure we are comfortable when we come and I have seen them go out of their way for other guests, both young and old, when we have been in. A fantastic establishment and we thank all the staff who work there for providing such a great place for us to spend time with our loved ones.”

“Love having this place local, and have supported it since day one…and I don’t like leaving g bad reviews, however, the “steak sandwich” I had last week was diabolical. Really poor. One slice of ciabatta with a LOAD of rocket on top, and chunk of unsliced steak on top. Asked for medium rare. Was blue. Impossible to make any kind of steak sandwich with it. Was this a mistake, or is this how you’re serving it?! Go and take a look at the steak sandwich offered by Cure on shaw Road, it’s a world apart, thinly sliced quality steak, ciabatta sandwich with mustard mayo, this is what I was expecting from you guys. It won’t stop me coming, but your menu needs adjusting.”
