About Mermaid Cafe
Mermaid Cafe is a cafe on King St E in Stockport, taking orders at the table rather than a counter. The kitchen makes its own fish fingers, alongside a full English breakfast served with coffee and a regular-size fish and chips with cod. Homemade soup comes with tartar sauce, and chicken and chips is available for a quicker order. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, high chairs are on hand for families with young children, and outdoor seating gives an option for eating outside. It opens Monday to Saturday for daytime service only, closing on Sundays. No booking is needed, as the cafe runs on a walk-in basis. Some dishes sell out during service, and the kitchen has been known to close as early as 3pm once they do.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast is the main draw, with several reviewers calling it the best in Stockport and singling out the full English, with well-cooked meat and sausages that one reviewer says beat the cheap and nasty versions elsewhere. Fish and chips comes close behind, described as big portions and chips one diner had not matched in a long time, while others mention homemade fish fingers, homemade soup and tartar sauce, and chicken and chips. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, with food arriving quickly and piping hot after orders taken at the table. Reviewers also describe the prices as reasonable and the place as clean. The caveats are smaller. One reviewer arriving at 2pm found many dishes sold out and noted the cafe closes at 3pm, and another called the lunch quick but pricey. One 1-star review describes greasy fish, a tiny portion of chips, and black mould in the toilet corner. Another reviewer, stopping in while waiting for a car, praised a full English that was not oily or greasy.

“Popping in here in the morning for a spot of breakfast while waiting for my car to be ready. When entering the café the staff were very friendly and welcoming, taking my order and offering me a table. I ordered a full English breakfast with a coffee. My coffee was brought over by the friendly lady and my breakfast didn't take long. I must admit it was one of the nicest I've had! Cooked perfectly, not oily or greasy and very tasty. If you do come to Stockport for breakfast before sure to support this independent café. It's much better service and quality than going to Asda or Greggs. Thank you, I'll be back”

“Greasy fish, tiny portion of chips, the toilet has black mould in the corner and extremely dusty fake flowers.”

“A lovely place! Locate nearby busy Mersey Way Center but easy to miss out ~ We arrived at 2pm, many food were sold out. Cod fish and chips order to made, tasty and in good portion (even this is regular size only) I would definitely come back for the homemade soup and tartar sauce. Reminded closed at 3pm. Good place for a quick and pricy 🥗 lunch/ take away”
