Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the huge portions, with the fish and chips described as so big it should be called "whale and chips," and the mixed grill also called huge. Close behind are the Sunday roast lamb, a mini leg that fell off the bone with fresh, plentiful veg, and a steak and ale pie so full of meat one diner could not finish it. Reviewers also mention chunky homemade chips, a vegetarian lasagne with lots of fresh vegetables, and chocolate fudge cake. On the drinks side, one notes good lager and keg beers on tap plus a cask ale. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and several say food came out quickly even when busy. Families point to the outdoor play area near Beamish Museum. The one recurring snag is space: one reviewer found parking a bit hard and outside seats a struggle when the pub was very busy, while others describe plenty of free parking. One group was too stuffed for dessert after the roast.

“Lovely pub, we visited on a recommendation as we wanted a play area for the children. There is parking for about 30 cars. Friendly staff, quick service, once ordered we didn't wait long for our food which was delicious. Good sized portions. We would definitely come again.”

“Great pub in a perfect setting when visiting Beamish Museum. 6 of us ate here for 2 nights in a row and the food was superb. The fish and chips is very understated , its huge and should be called Whale and chips ! Staff were all very friendly and service was fast. Gutted we missed out on the Sunday Roast but can't win them all !!”

“Sunday lunch. Roast lamb was a mini leg of lamb which just fell off the bone. Veg was fresh, plentiful and hot. We were too stuffed to have dessert. The people around us all cleared their plates and everything that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic. I think I'll keep returning and just just eat my way through the menu!”
