Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the full breakfast, with several praising a twist on the full English that comes with runny fried eggs, sweet potatoes, sourdough, salmon and avocado. Close behind are the protein pancakes, açai bowl, cheese omelette with beans and a Buddha bowl, described as fresh, delicious and generous in portion. The cake selection and homemade bakes such as flapjacks also earn praise, along with a red velvet latte and an exotic juice, and one reviewer with a dairy-free partner found many options. Service splits opinion. Several call the staff lovely and helpful, while others note slow service, a considerable wait for two dishes, and tables left with the previous customers' plates and cups despite plenty of staff. The sharpest complaints concern a banana cocoa and honey porridge with undercooked oats swimming in milk, and toast with overcooked poached eggs and sourdough that was not fresh. In that case the server looked annoyed at the complaint, offered no apology and charged full price.

“This was a nice and cosy brunch spot here in St. Albans. We were seated and attended to very quickly, and the food came within 10 minutes. Everyone was communicative, and we want to say a special thank you to Harry for servicing us. We ordered the full breakfast, apple juice and latte and it was superb. Mind the beans because it can be quite hot so give it some time to cool down before eating. The sweet potatoes were nicely done, not too hard or soft. We had fried egg that had a runny yolk which was good. The sourdough bread was also good as well alongside the salmon and the avocado. The place is little and cosy but extremely clean with sockets on the benches if you need to charge your phone. They have a selection of desserts like slices of cake and flapjacks. I recommend this place if you’re looking for a good brunch spot, you’ll be well fed.”

“Popped in here for a quick lunch. Many options considering me and my partner can’t have dairy. Very nice food and very nice coffee. The missus had a juice”

“Extremely disappointing breakfast: A bowl of slop! We decided to give Café 50nine a try this morning, as we usually go to The Breakfast Club opposite and fancied trying somewhere new. Unfortunately, we were left incredibly disappointed. I ordered the banana cocoa and honey porridge, which arrived looking like an absolute bowl of slop. The oats were clearly undercooked, swimming in milk, with slices of banana practically sinking into the mixture. It looked completely unappetising, and frankly, the fact that anyone thought this was acceptable to serve to a paying customer is beyond me. What disappointed me most wasn't just the quality of the porridge, but the fact that it was allowed to leave the kitchen looking like that. There was seemingly no care or attention given to its preparation or presentation. It completely put me off my breakfast. We had genuinely been looking forward to discovering a new breakfast spot, but this experience certainly hasn't encouraged us to return. If you're considering breakfast here, I would strongly recommend walking across to The Breakfast Club, where the food has consistently been outstanding in our experience. I have attached a picture of the banana, cocoa and honey porridge. The video was far worse, absolutely repulsive.”

“Had a fantastic breakfast at 59! The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared, with great taste and generous portions. The service was excellent, and a special mention to Deepika, Hari, Manasa for her friendly, attentive, and welcoming service. She made the whole experience even better. Really appreciated her professionalism and positive attitude. Overall, a wonderful breakfast experience — highly recommended!”

“A really lovely little eatery. Food was fresh and delicious, a nice twist on a full English and the cake selection was great. The exotic juice and red velvet latte are a must-try! We will definitely be back!”
