About The Aerodrome Café

The Aerodrome Café is a cafe in London at Elstree Aerodrome, overlooking a working airfield. Its fully glazed front conservatory gives customers a place to watch planes and helicopters take off and land while they eat. The kitchen makes pizzas in a pizza oven, and a daily specials board sits alongside the main menu. Roasts are served on Sundays, and a sizeable collection of cakes comes with scones, cream and jam. Orders are placed through QR codes on the tables or at the counter queue. The cafe opens daily for airfield visitors, pilots, flight staff and site workers. At peak times it gets busy, the car park fills up, and food can take a while to arrive.

Customer Review Summary

The recurring complaint is slow service when the café is busy. One reviewer reports waiting around 45 minutes for a Full English, with the toast arriving only after they asked. Another describes a long wait for family meals and a group of six that had to follow up five times for a missing portion of chips. A veggie burger was called short on flavour, and a few mention a busy car park. Others say staff warned of a longer wait and that made it acceptable.

“Service absolutely terrible as waited around 45 minutes to receive a simple Full English at which point the toast wasn't even served and I had to ask for that. Naturally in that time my coffee had been finished and I would prefer to have my coffee alongside my food. The breakfast itself was cooked nicely but then I suppose there was enough time to ensure that it was. The servers themselves was polite and did try to assist when asked though they seemed in at the deep end hence wait times, but they was trying, to be fair to them.Scenery was nice seeing the planes and helicopters and it was a pleasant place to sit.”

“My first visit, taking my kids for lunch with an airfield view. It was a great experience and we'll be back. It's a cafe/restaurant with pizza oven. Tables are available indoors, in the fully glazed front conservatory, and outdoors. Mix of small and large tables. We chose to squeeze 3 of us round a well-situated small table at the front of the conservatory. Large tables indoors would probably seat 6-8 and there are plenty of medium tables in all 3 areas. The food was good, the view of the airfield was fun. On ordering, the staff warned food would take about 30 mins which wasn't unreasonable and my kids were more than happy watching aircraft coming and going. Pros: * Extensive menu, lots of choice, daily specials * Prices are reasonable, decent portions, good food * Pizzas looked great, though we went for main menu items * Friendly, helpful staff * All on one level - no steps * Clean toilets close to entrance * Right in front of the airfield - we had constant activity of planes and helicopters in front of us. Cons: (but not big ones) * Car park was very busy. We arrived around 12. 15pm, but I did find a space. * Slow queue through the cafe to order food, which took maybe 20 minutes. There are ordering QR codes on the tables but I didn't try and suspect they weren't working.”

“We recently visited the Aerodrome Café and had a fantastic experience. The food and service were great, but the highlight for us was watching the planes and helicopters. My 7-year-old son absolutely loved it and was excited throughout our visit. It’s a wonderful place for aviation enthusiasts and families with children who enjoy aircraft. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxing, and the view of the airfield makes it a unique place to visit. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommended!”

“Amazing place for a family brunch! The kids and grownups loved the location being able to watch so many amazing aircraft taking of and landing while enjoying a meal and cold drink. There's was plenty of space on arrival despite it being a very popular on warm and sunny day. The staff were helpful and attentive. QR code table service is available for food and drinks which are excellent and prices were very reasonable. A great family morning or afternoon out, I would highly recommend a visit!”

“What a lovely little find in the neighbourhood! Food options are great and the portions are huge although we have found the service a bit too slow and not that great. We were a group of 6 and ordered food and drinks.. the coffee came too quickly but the food took longer and they totally forgot to bring chips for one of us and we had to follow up 5 times to get the chips. I wouldn’t definitely be going back and bringing back more friends here but would expect a better service overall. Lovely place to have food and enjoy drinks while watching planes and helicopters taking off and landing.”
