About The Waffle House - St Albans
The Waffle House - St Albans is a waffle cafe in St Albans, set in the working watermill at Kingsbury Watermill, where the building sits on a bridge over a small river. Waffles come in white, wholemeal or spelt flour, so the choice of base is part of ordering. Separate breakfast and lunch menus split the sweet and savoury options. On the savoury side, buttermilk chicken and waffles arrives with maple syrup. The sweet side includes a blueberry and cream stack. A gluten-free and dairy-free waffle is also made for those who need it. The cafe is open daily. It takes no pre-bookings, so a queue for a table can form.

Customer Review Summary
Fried and buttermilk chicken waffles come up most, with diners calling the combination surprisingly good, and the BBQ pulled pork is close behind as one reviewer's highlight. Several describe the waffles as light, crispy and fresh. The blueberry and cream stack and death by chocolate get praise on the sweet side, and the hot chocolate and malt milkshake earn their own mentions. A gluten and dairy free waffle was called light, fluffy and flavourful, and staff are repeatedly described as friendly and kind. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the waffles synthetic, crusty and crumbly, and another said service was slow even for tap water. One diner reports sautéed mushrooms arrived in a tamarind sauce so salty they were inedible, with no apology or replacement, while the charge and a service charge stayed on the bill. Others mention a queue because no pre-bookings are taken, and toilets that can get dirty. One reviewer was still seated without a reservation despite the crowd.

“The waffle house is a must if you’re in St Albans, a really great place for waffles both sweet and savoury style. We tried the breakfast menu and lunch menu, both were delicious. Amazing customer service as well, seated without reservations despite being busy. Definitely looking to come back and try more dishes.”

“Came here for the first time with friend - the gentleman on the door was really accommodating and sat us at the best table after here it was special occasion! The food was actually really good, and I’m usually more of a pancake person.. but these waffles are perfectly light and balance well. I had the fried chicken one and it was a surprisingly good combo! Our server Luke H was super helpful, made great recommendations (not just from the menu but also a cute spot to go after) and was really a lovely lad. Hope to have him again next time we come! :)”

“Lovely outdoor space, very scenic, but the food and service let things down. Service was average, staff very friendly but the speed needs improving- even when bringing simple things over like tap water. The food itself, the waffles were disappointing. They just tasted synthetic which was a surprise….. was expecting a soft chewy waffle, and bit into w crusty, crumbly waffle.”

“Really lovely experience. The restaurant has it's own parking next to it and it's nestled on a bridge, divided by a little river/canal. The decor was lovely, staff was really kind and the waffles were delicious. My husband and I got the buttermilk chicken and waffles with maple syrup, the pulled pork and waffles for savoury and then blueberry and cream stack for sweet. Our friends also got the buttermilk chicken, the mushroom/bechemel waffle and for sweet they got the death by chocolate. We absolutely demolished the savoury so I don't think I got pictures but the sweet waffles were delicious and fresh (blueberry) and moorish and rich (chocolate). The waffles were alot lighter than I expected which was a nice suprise as we didn't feel overstuffed after everything. Would highly recommend the malt milkshake and the fresh strawberry milkshake aswell!! Definitely recommend”
