Quick info
About Puzzle Hall Inn
Puzzle Hall Inn is a pub on Hollins Mill Lane in Sowerby Bridge, a short walk from the town centre. The community owns and runs it, and the traditional old building is small inside. Live music runs on a regular basis, with gigs most weeks on stages both indoors and out, and the music is often pay-as-you-feel. At the bar, cask ales sit alongside rotating guest taps and ciders. Food comes as bar snacks rather than a full menu. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Live music is the main draw at this community pub, with reviewers describing regular gigs in a small, intimate room and a stage outdoors as well. The shows are often pay-as-you-feel, which one reviewer calls a brilliant way to discover new and local artists. Close behind is the beer. Reviewers single out well kept cask ales, rotating guest taps and a frequently changing run of cask and keg ales and ciders at good prices. Several say the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and make visitors feel welcome. Others mention a good atmosphere and a bohemian, good natured audience. Food draws mixed comments. One reviewer praises unexpectedly tasty food, while another says the pub serves only the usual pub snacks. The location at the quieter end of town, a short walk from the centre, comes up too. The large beer garden is described as partially covered so the weather can do what it wants, and one reviewer pictures it lit by twinkly faerie-lights in the evening.

“The Puzzle is a community pub with an unbeatable atmosphere. For a small pub — it's reputation is mighty. It's a place where everyone is welcome. This 17th‑century pub is home to some exceptional live music; you're likely to discover some great bands long before anyone else! But it doesn't cater solely for up-and-coming bands... Recently, Chris Martin from Coldplay cycled along (literally) to the venue to play an impromptu gig. Why? Simply because he'd heard how amazing it is. He wasn't disappointed. I almost forgot to mention that it also serves great beer! The Puzzle is home to some excellent local ales and rotating guest taps. The bar is always well stocked with some well‑kept cask beers. The staff are super-knowledgeable and care about what they pour. The Puzzle also produces some unexpectedly tasty food, too!! Should you find yourself sat in the beer garden, lit by twinkly faerie-lights, surrounded by all this wonderment you'll understand why so many regard The Puzzle as their local — even when, like me, they live many miles away from the place. Call in for a pint. Bring your partner. Bring your partners dog and just breathe it in. Your soul will thank you for it.”

“I used to frequent the puzzle a few years ago and called in to see it still going strong. A fantastic place for live music and a cracking pint to boot. Well worth a visit especially for the live gigs. They do not serve food though just the usual pub snacks.”
