About The Percy Shaw
The Percy Shaw is a pub in Halifax on Broad St, formerly a Wetherspoons and now run by new owners. A new menu came in with the change of hands, and it lists burgers, gammon and eggs, and steak pie, along with a traditional breakfast. Draft beer is on the drinks list, and drinks are ordered separately from food. Some dishes and taps can be unavailable on a given visit, so the range on the day may differ from the full list.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers mostly describe a former Wetherspoons now run by new owners, and the most common thread is slow food and smaller portions. Several report a long wait, and one says a steak pie arrived over 50 minutes after ordering, after the rib combo, spaghetti bolognaise and pizza were all unavailable. Another says the portions would not fill a toddler and that prices feel higher for less. Drinks are now ordered separately, and one notes about half the draft taps were covered. Praise centers on friendly staff and the food that does land well: a juicy burger with crisp onion rings, thick gammon with three fried eggs, and a hot traditional breakfast served quickly. One reviewer found a long hair in a burger, which was taken back and refunded, though the same group says they were refused another drink. A wheelchair user found the bar seating area hard to reach. Another reviewer received mushroom linguine without the creamy sauce expected, and the hostess offered to take it back.

“Formerly a Wetherpoons pub, they've kept the cheap food and drinks but no longer do the meal deals. You have to order drinks separately. The food also takes alot longer to arrive. It's still a viable alternative to the remaining Wetherpoons down the road, where you can't get a table on a Saturday afternoon because it's so busy!”

“We came in thinking that it was still a Wetherspoons. The prices looked reasonable and we wanted a nice bite to eat before our remaining activities of our day. Came in and about half of the draft beer taps had cups over them. Limiting the drinks options by a lot. I wanted the Rib combo meal, which was out of stock, I then ordered spaghetti bolognaise instead. Half an hour later the waiter tells me that there’s no Spaghetti, I then ask for a Pizza, was told there’s no Pizza also. Eventually ordered something they did have which was the Steak Pie. By that point I was too hungry to care. Our food arrived over 50 minutes after ordering and it wasn’t even busy, just short stocked. The food taste was alright but the portion sizes felt quite small. For something that should have been a nice meal out turned into an experience I won’t forget (for the wrong reasons).”

“The new menu sucks. The old menu was much better, the portion sizes now wouldn't fill a toddler, the prices for what you pay are not worth it. We used to come here every week but the rise in price for smaller portions is a huge negative. Also a long wait time, staff are lovely, service at the bar is always decent.”

“Stopped off for breakfast on the way to Bolton for a family event. Had a traditional breakfast, good portion size and was very hot, unlike some wetherspoons I have been where it has been luke warm. Staff very friendly. Service was quick, only waiting 5 minutes from ordering and paying.”

“It's not a wetherspoons anymore. Haha. But staff very friendly and food looks nice 👍🏼 Great for when the suns out”
