About Henry Tudor Inn
Henry Tudor Inn is a pub on Barracks Passage in Shrewsbury, set in a half-timbered building with a Tudor-style interior of original structural beams and wood features. Signage over the front door gives 1429 as the year it was established. Food is served from the bar, and a separate table service restaurant runs alongside it. The menu lists 21 dishes, including Pork Terrine with Pickled Walnut and Grilled Chicory, Fishcakes with Curry Sauce and Confit Potato, and Cauliflower Cheese. Joules ale is on tap, with a range of real ales and barrel cask beer, and the wine menu includes French sparkling wine. Booths are set like old gaol cells, and diners can sit in the cell. A cigar lounge in the middle of the building used to be a sweet shop, and there are seats by the fire.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the building itself, a Tudor pub whose old woodwork and sense of history make visitors feel they have gone back in time. Booths set like old gaol cells come up repeatedly, and one diner was let to sit in the cell. Close behind is the drink: the Joules real ales on tap are called well kept and full of flavour, and the wine list is described as broader than expected, with one reviewer enjoying a French sparkling wine. One diner praises the beetroot soaked salmon with horseradish cream, and others call the food very good. Service is described as warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The main complaints are about food: one lunchtime visitor found the usual sandwich menu unavailable on a Tuesday and nothing else appealing, and another found the desserts too sophisticated. Several reviewers only stopped for a drink, and one was shown to a seat by the fire by the door staff, who also explained that the cigar lounge in the middle was once a sweet shop.

“On this occasion we only stopped for a drink. I was completely pulled in by the Tudor name and the Inn lived up to everything I imagined. Inside is like being transported to another time, it is so charming with a lot of charecter. The original structural beams are fascinating and the artwork on display is amazing. I have a French Sparkling wine, which I was I thought was interesting. The wine menu was much broader than I imagined. I would recommend.”

“Wife and I popped by for a quick lunchtime drink, fancied a sandwich with chips/salad but the usual sandwich menu wasn’t available today (Tuesday) ? Nothing else grabbed us on the main menu unfortunately so just enjoyed our beers. It’s an old quirky pub, modernised in parts, lovely booths and other sitting areas. Food served from the bar or there’s a separate table service restaurant. Nice first time visit. Have passed it many times over the years, well worth a visit if it’s not too busy.”

“The Henry Tudor Inn is a real find the kind of place that reminds you why traditional English pubs are worth seeking out. The medieval-style furniture throughout gives the place a proper sense of history and atmosphere; you can tell real thought has gone into the interior rather than it being generic pub decor. Had the local Joules ale on tap and it was excellent well-kept, full of flavour, and a great showcase for what the local brewery does best. Nice to see a pub supporting a regional brewer rather than just sticking to the usual mass-market lines. Beyond the drinks, the sense of history here is a real highlight. There’s clearly a story behind the building and its name, and it adds a lot to the experience it feels like more than just a pub, more like a small piece of living heritage you get to enjoy a pint in. Would highly recommend to anyone after a proper local pub with character, good beer, and a real sense of place.”
