Quick info
About Riverside Inn
Riverside Inn is a pub with rooms in Shrewsbury, set in a Grade II listed building on a bend of the River Severn on Cound. Many of the tables overlook the river, so a meal here comes with a view of the water. Inside, a conservatory with alcoves gives diners another place to sit. The menu runs through starters, mains and desserts as separate courses, and Sunday lunch brings a roast dinner. Groups can pre-order food for large parties, which suits a bigger table sharing one sitting. The pub is open daily, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the river setting, with views from the terrace, the conservatory and the gardens, and many pair it with a Sunday roast lunch they describe as generous and full of flavour. Desserts, the squid and chicken starters and the mussels also draw praise, and one diner mentions being made welcome on a first outing with a new puppy. Some describe warm, friendly staff and credit the manager by role. Slow service is the recurring complaint, raised in several reviews. Diners report long waits for first drinks and for each course, empty glasses left uncollected, cutlery requested on every course, and one table having to get up to ask for the bill. A large group says its pre-ordered food seemed unknown to the staff. Two reviewers report cold food, including cold fries and stuffing balls cold in the middle of a lamb roast, with the gravy the only hot element. One found the meal ordinary for the cost. One table's finished starters stayed put until the mains arrived.

“This is the hidden gem of Shrewsbury. If you’re in the area you have to visit this place. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the food is excellent. Special mention to Lesley who always makes me feel welcome but I must pay great compliments to Ben, he is fantastic, friendly, warm and very attentive! Nothing was too much trouble for him and he went out of his way to ensure my visit was a memorable one. You have a superstar on your hands.”

“Sunday lunch was excellent, first time out with new puppy and was made very welcome. We both had the roast lunch and happy with the quality, weather was kind and we sat on the terrace overlooking the river. We will definitely be going back.”

“The food was ok but nothing to shout about, I expected something better. Quite pricey. Should be better quality for the price. The girl who served us was lovely, genuinely friendly, her service was impeccable. However the service was very slow, we were waiting sometime for our 1st drinks and then each course in-between. The location is lovely, right by the river, beautiful.”

“We booked at table of two at 7pm outside and the setting is beautiful which is such a shame we were let down by food and service. We were seated than our server had rushed off before we can ask anything I understand we can be busy but it weren’t busy at all. We had to wait about 10 minutes before anyone came for our drinks order than she also took our starters. We had the squid and chicken which were beautiful. After we had finished our starters they were on our table for about 15 minutes before anyone cleared it and they didn’t until they brought our mains out. It’s such a shame because the food itself was lovely yet so cold!! Ordered the mussels and the lamb roast. The mussels were nice and hot but the fries were cold so I asked if they could be reheated she put them on the table and walked off before I could even say how cold my meal was. There was no checking up on us left to our selves. I cut into the stuffing balls which was cold in the middle the only thing hot was the gravy. It seemed to be like the food had been done since our starters then they have just poured the hot gravy over it . It was such a shame because the flavour and presentation was so lovely.”

“We have been here twice now and feel management does not put enough staff on or they are undertrained. We endlessly had to wave staff down to order more drinks, cutlery had to be asked for on every course, our mains were dropped at our table with no ask of a new drink even though our glasses were empty. Empty glasses were not collected during the service at all and just collected at the end of the table. Major positive, the food is amazing and delicious but sadly the service has clouded this. We experienced similar on our first visit and thought it would be a one off so this time has put us off returning again”
