Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the Sunday lunch, praising generous portions, quick service and an excellent pudding menu, with one also naming a beef Sunday roast and a roast wrap with chips. Close behind are the loaded cheesy fries with crispy onions, the mushy peas and a banana and filo dessert with toffee sauce. Several describe a cosy, spacious pub with friendly staff and a lovely garden, and the live music on Sundays and dog-friendly welcome earn mentions too. The complaints are few but specific. One diner found the ham, egg and chips had a single thin slice of ham and one egg for the price, and staff seemed unbothered when asked, though the fish batter and chips were praised. Another arrived at 7pm on a bank holiday after the listing showed the kitchen open later, and was told the kitchen had already closed. One reviewer recalls staff serving bowls of chips at 8:45 pm even though the kitchen stops at 9.

“This was our first visit to the Goat but it won't be our last. The pub is spacious and airy while retaining its historic heritage. The food is delicious, best mushy peas ever and a banana/filo dessert with toffee sauce to die for. Good choice of mocktails for the driver and very friendly service. Reasonably priced. especially with the special offer for two pub classics on the day we visited.”

“Absolutely lovely pub. Great staff. Just popped in for a quick drink. We will be back Monday for lunch.”

“First time visiting this summer and has become one of our favourite pubs! Have visited on multiple Sundays, enjoyed the roast wrap ordered with chips, and a beef Sunday roast. Meat locally sourced and was all delicious. Would recommend. Sundays they also have live music which is nice. We also visited on a Monday or Tuesday over the summer and enjoyed a late lunch there. Garden space is lovely and staff are all friendly and attentive. Would recommend.”

“My BFF and my goddaughter took me here for my birthday. It was 2.30 on a Monday so empty in the restaurant but people sitting outside. This in no way detracted from the atmosphere which was very nice. The servers were warm and friendly and the food was very good.”

“Sadly we won’t be going back as didn’t feel overly welcome and definitely didn’t leave satisfied. The ham egg and chips had one thin slice of ham and one egg, which neither filled the tummy, nor warranted the price tag. Not even hand carved ham, just a basic slice. Such a shame as the fish batter was light, tasty and cooked wonderfully, no easy task. The chips were delicious. It was just let down by scrimping on one meal. And when we enquired politely whether one slice of ham and one egg justifies £18 they seemed unbothered. I mean how hard would it be to fry an extra egg to keep us happy at that point? We’d have left happy and this review would be glowing. Such an easy and cheap fix would have kept us coming back.”
