About Porta Tapas Bar
On Chapel St in Salford, Porta Tapas Bar is a tapas bar modelled on the small independent tapas bars of Madrid and Barcelona. Guests sit on high stools and at casual tables, and an upstairs balcony gives the room a second level. The menu is Iberian, and the kitchen makes its tapas by hand. Porta takes walk-ins only and does not accept bookings, so you turn up and take whichever space is free. Wine, beer and music come alongside the food.

Customer Review Summary
Gambas and prawns come up most often, with one diner calling the fresh cooked gambas a treat and another listing the prawns among the standouts. Close behind are the croquettes, with one table ordering more, plus the pan con tomate, meatballs, octopus, Iberico pork and a chickpea and lentil stew. Specials draw praise too, including churros with blue cheese, honey and spicy mince, though one reviewer found the rabbit special not to their taste. Staff are described as friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, and the terrace gets a mention. Complaints centre on olive oil: a Spanish diner found the omelette doused in it, and another thought the grilled octopus tasted too strongly of it. Portions split opinion, with one calling them tiny and another generous. One party was surprised that the gambas arrive with the shell on, which the menu did not make clear. Another disliked the added service charge, and the staff were happy to take it off.

“Always spot on. Food is made with love and the specials are always delicious and great value! The service is superb; professional, friendly and diligent … standouts - croquettas, Iberico pork, chicken thighs and all things anchovy! Love this place! 🧡🇪🇸”

“What an amazing little restaurant. We walked passed a few time and wanted to go and try the tapas. Today it was too nice not to do it. The staff are really friendly and attentive, service outside on the terrace was perfect while we enjoyed the sunshine. The food is top of the game, the tapas are delicious and freshly cooked. Tasty fresh cooked Gambas were a treat. Will definitely visit again as it made me feel like I was at home in Spain. The only let down is the service charger sneaking everywhere in England this days. I understand it all goes to the staff but I am an old dog who recognises the staff work and rather leave a tip when earned and not forced. But the staff were happy to take it off. Will definitely be back again. 100% recommended”

“Plenty of choices for tapas. The food was delicious but was a bit surprised with the grilled octopus dish as the olive oil taste was a bit too strong!”

“Not bad, but we Spaniards like sharing proper plates. The portions here are tiny. The food is ok. The omelette came doused in olive oil which is something not really done in Spain. Olive oil is precious these days, guys!”

“Visited for the first last night for a quick bite to eat, not too busy as it was early and we were seated and served with drinks and the menu explained to us. The choices were excellent and every dish we had was delicious infact we ordered more croquettes. Definitely will be returning as soon as we get a chance.”

“Designed to be completely relaxed and informal, Porta takes inspiration from the tiny, independent tapas bars of Madrid and Barcelona. High stools and casual tables set the scene for a busy, energetic vibe. Our menu is distinctly Iberian, offering authentic tapas bar classics that are entirely handmade in our kitchen. There is no need to book, just turn up and claim a space. Porta is simply a place to kick back; a comfortable environment offering great food, wine, beer, and music. We do 𝗡𝗢𝗧 take bookings. Walk-ins only.”
