“Visited for the burger night. All the tables by the waterfront were reserved or taken. We took an available 6 seat table elsewhere as no small tables were free. I purchased drinks and we ordered burgers. A couple sitting at a large table by the waterfront finished their drinks and left. My wife went the bar to say we were moving to the now vacant waterfront table. She was told that we couldn't sit there in case a party came in (we were already occupying a table for 6!). We ate our food, complained about the poor hospitality and left. Not bothering with deserts or more drinks. This is not Yorkshire hospitality at it's best. Maybe they can afford to lose customers. We regularly stay in the Ripon area but won't be troubling them with our custom again.”

“Lovely place. Very popular for Sunday lunch. They cater events too, Birthdays, fu eras, christenings, I've known them do soul evenings too. Lovely personable, friendly manageress & staff.”

“Called in for lunch on Saturday. The fish pie & Sea Bass were lovely. Friendly, helpful staff, dog friendly and decent beer. There was even a bowl of water by our table for our dog when we arrived. There's very little parking, you have to park on Bondgate Green.”

“I loved it. Lovely setting, brilliant staff, comfortable atmosphere, fantastic view of the canal. The food good except for the beef which was a little too rare for me but not for other members of our party of 7. Parking a bit of an issue but the road and buildings were built before cars. We managed. Great experience”

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the seafood, with the Friday fish and chips for two praised for its balance of fish to batter, and the fish pie and sea bass called lovely by others. Close behind are the river and cathedral views, with one reviewer noting the window seats all look onto the river, and the friendly, helpful staff. The sticky toffee pudding gets a mention too, though one diner wanted custard rather than the ice creams on offer. A dog bowl of water at the table pleased one visitor. Parking draws repeated comment, with reviewers saying there is very little and that it means using Bondgate Green. One diner found the beef too rare, and another felt the restaurant area was a little cold. The sharpest complaint comes from a burger night visitor who says staff refused a vacant waterfront table in case a party arrived, even though the diners already occupied a table for six. One reviewer suggests booking, as the pub was nearly full at lunchtime, and another mentions Sunday lunch being popular.
