About Six Poor Folk
Six Poor Folk is a bar at 25 Castlegate in Knaresborough, with seating downstairs and upstairs. The kitchen serves burgers, including a house burger and the Nacho Burger, both paired with thick-cut, home-made chips. The menu also covers vegetarian and gluten-free options. At the taps, the team pours cask bitter alongside a wider beer selection. A monthly Irish music night gives locals a set date to plan around, and a roast is served once a month rather than weekly. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Burgers are what reviewers return to most, from the house burger and chips that one gluten free diner found easy to order without fuss, to the Nacho Burger with chorizo chilli and nachos inside, and thick cut home made chips. Close behind are the Sunday roast, which a few mention (one notes it is served only on the first Sunday of the month), and the Fish Butty with perfectly cooked haddock. Others praise the beer selection, cakes, and a pint of cask bitter. Many describe friendly, helpful staff, a relaxed, cosy atmosphere with indoor, upstairs and outdoor seating, and a welcome for dogs. One reviewer found the green beans slightly hard. The main complaint comes from a visitor who came for the monthly Irish music night, was told repeatedly the band would play, and was only told at 9pm that most of the musicians were on holiday, so there was no music. That reviewer wished the cancellation had been posted and still called the evening lovely.

“My favourite place in Knaresborugh. We've been a few times on different days and times and it's always fantastic. Love their beer selection, cakes, and their Sunday roast. My kids have always eaten well too!”

“We had a lovely meal here. It was recommended by a customer of another pub and didn’t disappoint. The burgers were really good and the service was excellent and the staff and other customers were very friendly. We would definitely return.”

“A lovely place! Really lovely food and service. As somebody who is gluten free, it was so nice to enjoy the house burger and chips and there be no fuss. Lots of places over complicate allergen options or make it so there's not much choice. Plenty of choice and easy. It was delicious. Thank you for a lovely lunch and experience 🌟”

“This is a beautiful pub with a wonderful atmosphere. There is outdoor seating as well as indoor with seats both upstairs and downstairs. The place has a cozy welcoming feel to it. We only ordered a couple of drinks, so I cannot comment on the food but it smelt amazing. We came here for the Irish music night that they host every month on the last Thursday. When we arrived at 8pm (when the music was supposed to start) we were told they would be playing that evening. We sat down outside, got our drinks, and waited. By 8.35 the music still hasn’t started to we went back inside to ask which we were reassured they would be playing. By 9pm they still weren’t playing so we got ready to leave. We asked one final time about the music, and we were told that a couple of them were here, but the others weren’t as they were on holiday. This meant that there would be no music that night. I am not sure why we were told in the first place they were going to be playing if they knew they weren’t? Why not just say they were away when we walked through the door? We specifically only went there for that event and we were misinformed which was a bit disappointing. In future maybe let customers know or post on social media that the event has been cancelled so others are aware. Despite this miscommunication, we still had a lovely time.”

“Stumbled upon this delightful pub, the food was delicious. Recommend the Nacho Burger, absolutely delicious (burger, with chorizo chilli and heat wave nachos all beautifully in a burger.... stunning!) Lovely service and nice relaxed atmosphere. Dog friendly which was great for our Bessie!”
