About Chez Lindsay

Chez Lindsay is a French restaurant in Richmond, at 11 Hill Rise, with a rustic waterside setting. The kitchen specialises in Breton galettes and crêpes, with seafood from Brittany and Breton ciders to go with them. The wider menu follows a classic French line, with oysters among the starters and Crêpes Suzette set alight at the table for dessert. A set lunch comes in two or three courses, and crêpes are one of the options. The restaurant takes walk-ins. Every Wednesday is steak night.

Customer Review Summary

Duck draws the most mentions, from a duck terrine at a set lunch to a main one diner called the best duck ever. Close behind is the fish soup, described as delicious and generously sized, and filling enough that one reviewer wanted nothing else. Oysters on ice, baked Camembert, snails, crab salad and pan fried squid come up among the starters. Mains such as steak, lamb with merguez sausages, sea bream and chicken earn praise, along with potato dauphinoise on the side. Crepes appear on the lunch menu, and one diner describes crepes Suzette set alight at the table. Several also single out the wine list and the independent feel. The complaints are small but specific. One reviewer found the room loud, another wished the tables were further apart, and one felt the lentils overpowered an otherwise well cooked salmon. Service is called welcoming and friendly, and one couple celebrating an anniversary were brought a crème brûlée by the staff.

“Food and prices: great, especially the lunch menu 2 courses for £25. Had the pan fried squid starter and the bake filet main - both very enjoyable and I was full! My friend had the soup of the day which was really nice too. Service was good. Only downside was quite loud in there.”

“We hadn’t eaten here for a few years and I had forgotten how good it is. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and so enjoyed some lovely big oysters on ice with our apertifs before getting into starters and mains. Crab salad and fish soup were both delicious and generously sized. For mains my wife’s sea bream was perfectly cooked and my lamb, with minted peas and beans, and a twist with merguez sausages and hummus, was exceptionally good. Wines were good value (and Pinot Noir was offered as slightly chilled or room temp) and service was excellent throughout. Even though we were too full for desert, the staff brought out a crème brûlée to wish us happy anniversary, which was a lovely gesture. We ‘somehow’ managed to finish it. Amazing food and service and fantastic value for money.”

“We had the best duck ever, and the fish was elegant, served with an exquisite sauce and beautifully layered components. This is definitely a place for true foodies, without any pretense.”

“Great French restaurant in Richmond. Had a very tasty fish soup. It filled me up so much I didn’t want anything else. The menu has a good selection of typical French food. I didn’t think that the prices were over expensive for Richmond and high quality decent portion sized food. They have a steak night every Wednesday which I will look into. It’s good to frequent an independent high quality comfortable restaurant with good staff, nice background music as opposed to a boring chain.”

“We really enjoyed the food and the service was attentive. Portions are large, tastebuds were happy, wine is great! Tables could be just about further apart but it didn’t disturb our evening. Thank you and will return again”
