About The Petersham Restaurant
The Petersham Restaurant is a British restaurant on Nightingale Ln in Richmond, where large windows look out over the Thames at Petersham. The smoked salmon comes out on a trolley and is sliced at the table, so the dish is carved in front of the guest. Afternoon tea is served with sandwiches and cakes, and a set menu is offered for evening dining. Sunday lunch is also on the list of meals. Reservations are required. Dogs are welcome. Framed history of the restaurant's patronage is displayed on the walls.

Customer Review Summary
The view across the Thames is the draw reviewers raise most, called stunning and fabulous from the large windows, and it frames anniversary lunches, a wedding and Sunday meals. The food gets closer scrutiny. Praise goes to the smoked salmon sliced at the table from a trolley and a salmon with celeriac, while one vegan breakfast reviewer wanted more tofu. Others are less impressed. One found the Sunday roast potatoes hard and the food rich, another called the afternoon tea nice but nothing special and overpriced, and a third found the latte disappointing and the poke bowl rice lacking. Several question value, pointing to the charge for bread and the supplement on the Dover Sole, though one reviewer found the Friday set menu decent value. Service is mostly described as attentive and courteous, but one reviewer was disappointed that staff did not address guests taking phone calls on loudspeaker. A couple mention anniversary touches, and one wedding guest recalls staff bringing umbrellas on a drizzly afternoon.

“Very expensive for the food offered, so poor value for money despite the lovely view over the Thames. We went for Sunday lunch recently, the roast potatoes were hard and inedible, the starter salad leaves hadn’t been washed and were gritty. The food was rich and gave indigestion. Also £6.50 for 4 slices of bread and a whopping £20 supplement for Dover Sole. To cap it all, had to wait 5 minutes for a menu too. There are far better value for money options.”

“A beautiful location with fabulous views of the river. Comfortable seats although cushions would be nice. The air conditioning was welcome on a blisteringly hot day. The afternoon tea was nice but nothing special and I felt it was overpriced compared with others in the area. We were also disappointed that no staff member challenged the two women on the adjacent table having conversations with their phones on loudspeaker. Just rude, unnecessary and something staff should have addressed.”

“What a wonderful experience! Perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary! The view was stunning, the food was wonderful and the value was really decent for a Friday night set menu at a high end restaurant. The staff was absolutely perfect and attentive, we even had a lovely attention for our anniversary. Really over the moon!”

“£34 a breakfast. Fantastic service. Very popular and busy. Needs reservations but luckily we got in without as we arrived really early”

“Attended a wedding here recently. We were greeted by friendly & helpful staff who showed us where to park . They kindly brought us umbrellas as it was drizzly that afternoon. The location is fantastic and the views across the Thames were absolutely stunning!”
