Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers praise fresh, flavourful food and friendly staff, with the dining room described as elegant and calming. Diners name the crispy aromatic duck, chicken lettuce wrap, sweet and sour chicken and Singapore fried noodles, and one loved the special seafood udon noodles with XO sauce. Several call the value reasonable or excellent, and one notes the same staff and owners have been there for a long time. A smaller group is sharply critical, mostly about takeaway. One found the Singapore rice and Singapore noodles excessively salty, with curry powder dominating the noodles and lingering after the meal. Another received duck so dry it snapped off the bone, crispy pork belly that was not crispy, rice in one lump, soft chicken ball batter and dry chow mein. A third described slow service, small portions and fewer prawns than other Chinese takeaways, and left feeling hungry. The dry duck order had been sitting in a warming cabinet when it was collected.

“Very slow service and small portions. When we order a takeaway from other Chinese, the amount of prawns are double the quantity. We ordered plenty starters, main and rise, noodles, but felt hungry when we got home. Bit expensive too”

“do not generally like leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately this meal was very disappointing. I ordered the Singapore rice, Singapore noodles and tempura prawns. I had no major issue with the tempura prawns, although they were not the same as those previously provided by Regency and did not seem to be of the same standard. The main problem was with the Singapore rice and Singapore noodles. When I want Indian food, I order from an Indian restaurant; when I want Chinese food, I order from a Chinese restaurant. What I received did not taste like a traditional Chinese dish. Both dishes were excessively salty, and the Singapore noodles in particular contained far too much curry powder. The curry flavour was overpowering and completely dominated the dish. Regency's food was previously, in my view, at least a 3.5 out of 5 for quality. Based on this order, I would struggle to give it even a 2 out of 5. Even after finishing the meal, the lingering curry taste was very noticeable, which further suggests that too much curry was used in the Singapore noodles. I am sorry to leave such a review, but as a regular customer of chinese food and singapore noodles in particular I felt it was important to provide honest feedback.”

“Hands down the best and most consistently superb Chinese restaurant in the UK. Always lovely food and service, and the same staff and owners for a long time, which tells you a lot about a place. Wonderful!”

“ordered a takeaway and was told 15 mins which i thought was quick considering what was ordered when I picked up the order it was in a warming cabinet in the restaurant the duck was so dry you could snap it off the bone crispy pork belly NOT crispy and extremely salty, rice basically one lump, thick gloopy curry sauce the chicken balls batter was soft and the chow mein was very dry. had heard good things about the restaurant but this was poor.”
