About The Royal Exchange
The Royal Exchange is a pub in Portland, found at 48a Weston Rd. A landlady runs the pub, and a resident pub dog lives in the building. For visitors who bring dogs of their own, that means arriving at a pub where a dog already has a home. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring their companions along when they come for a drink. Its household is a landlady in charge and a dog in residence.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to this pub mostly for its atmosphere, with several describing a warm welcome and feeling at home, helped by a fireplace, football on the screen, darts and a pool table. Friendly bar staff, a kind landlady, and a helpful manager come up repeatedly, and one reviewer praises the cider. Several mention the pub garden behind and say the pub is dog friendly, including after a long dog walk, and one calls the pub dog a big softy. Food draws little comment, with one noting there is only chips and bits. The main complaints are specific. One reviewer says staff turned away their dog at the door, with a woman telling them the pub dog is the reason other dogs are not allowed, and found this rude. Another, giving three stars, calls it a bit of a drinkers pub and says the pool table is no longer there. One reviewer's visit ended in a night of conversation with other people in the pub.

“IS NOT DOG FRIENDLY! Owners have a large un friendly dog and will not let you in... rude woman came out to us saying no dogs allowed, I said you have dogs inside and she rudely replied, yes that's the pub dog and why we don't allow dogs... I do appreciate that your own dog is more important than others but sight post and have manners...”
