About Bryncae Arms
In Pontyclun, Bryncae Arms is a pub at 5 Bridgend Rd with a separate restaurant room as well as the bar. Food is brought to the table, and the kitchen makes its hunters chicken in house. A curry night is held at the pub, which gives curry fans a dedicated evening alongside the regular menu. Staff seat guests on arrival, and a sign at the bar explains how the seating process works.

Customer Review Summary
Homemade hunters chicken is the dish reviewers name most, from a group of eight and from a couple who cleared their plates two nights running, alongside chicken Kiev, a 24oz mixed grill and pepperoni pizza. Close behind are pork crackling, onion rings and chips called beautiful by one diner, with portions described as plentiful. Food is not uniformly liked. Another reviewer found the chips uncooked, three at one table were let down by the half and half chicken tikka curry, and one diner called the fish and chips the worst they had had and reports mushrooms swimming in oil that left someone unwell. Service divides. Some describe friendly staff and efficient table service. Two detailed complaints cite a rude tone, a lecture about seating themselves, very slow service in a quiet room, and a lunch party made to feel unwelcome over not booking and an outside cup. One bill wrongly included previous guests' desserts, then was rectified.

“We had planned on popping in for a lovely lunch today but unfortunately we were greeted with two people who seemed very annoyed. We took the benefit of the doubt and wondered if we’d misread the room. We then very kindly asked, “are you guys serving food?” They turned their backs and started muttering and then the woman (who wasn’t even looking at us) told the boy to “just put them there”. The boy walked away, we weren’t told to follow, and then we realised they were willing to serve us. The boy then said in quite a firm tone, “next time you should book as Fridays are our busiest time”. AlthoUgh ironically it appeared pretty empty. But we took that on the chin, kindly carried on looking at the menu. The boy then comes back and instead of politely asking my friend to remove her Stanley cup from the table (fair and understandable ask) he very arrogantly expressed ‘you’re gonna have to get that off the table, no outside drinks allowed’ - he said it in a tone that left us feeling quite uncomfortable and like we were stupid, and massively inconveniencing these people. Further more, we then watched the boy walking up to the older woman, who we can only assume as the manager, and watched them point at us and talk about the Stanley. We do not appreciate walking into an establishment and being made to feel like total idiots for coming for lunch in a pub at lunch time on a weekday. The saddest part was watching the other elderly customers being ushered to their table in the restaurant and being treated kindly and politely, while we were given bad treatment simply because we had not booked in advance. We would have rather just been told there was no room for us, rather than being treated like total inconveniences. We then calmly and swiftly gathered our things and politely asked the boy to cancel the food we had ordered a couple of minutes previously. When asked why we expressed that we were made to feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable from rn second we walked in. He explained that it was down to them having been very busy. Which in my opinion isn’t a good enough reason to treat customers poorly. Overall, the service was below par and the tone was unnecessary and uncomfortable.”

“Chips was not cooked, gammon was nice and veggie meal was nice. It was a curry night so maybe we will try that nest next time”

“We’ve visited this pub a few times now and unfortunately have had disappointing experiences on each occasion. On a previous visit, the food was genuinely poor - the fish and chips were the worst I’ve had, and another dish contained mushrooms swimming in oil to the point of making someone feel unwell. Service was also extremely slow despite the restaurant being very quiet. We returned again recently out of convenience and encountered further issues. There were no staff available at the bar or restaurant to explain the seating process, and although there was apparently a small sign at the bar, it was blocked by people standing there. Unsure what to do, we seated ourselves. When a staff member eventually approached us, she spoke quite rudely and repeatedly lectured us about not seating ourselves next time. Even if there is a policy, the tone felt unnecessary and could have been handled much more politely. While the food was acceptable this time, the service was again very slow. We waited a long time for our meals, and staff repeatedly entered the room without making eye contact or checking in. In the end, I had to call out to ask for an update. Overall, we’ve found the service consistently lacking. It’s a shame, but we’re unlikely to return.”

“The food is amazing in this place first night i had the chicken Kiev and my other half had the 24oz mixed grill all I can say there was nothing left on the plate it was amazing. Next night I had the pepperoni pizza and my lady had the hunters chicken and same again nothing left. The place is brilliant the staff are amazing. If you are this way please go in and try the food you will not be disappointed. The team behind the bar amd front of house are so polite and pleasant landlord and landlady make you feel so welcome. When im back this way I will 100% be back in here for the food”
